What is the etiquette for removing/changing information from a page that is written so it is not necessarily out of date, but enough time has passed that it doesn't seem necessary to have on the page or could atleast use a re-write? For example, this page says, "According to an Endeavour Silver Corp. report, global mine production of silver in 2007 was 671 million troy ounces.[citation needed]". I can see the benefit of having some historical context for mine production, but in that case I was going to change it to a percentage of change from 5/10 years ago or something along those lines. Any objections? I'm new to this so please let me know if this is not the appropriate place to post. Dvbyrne (talk) 16:51, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

As that is an uncited statement - it may simply be removed. As you are adding to the article with sources - go right ahead and redo that bit also. Vsmith (talk) 17:07, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Effects of silver mining on "Indigenous communities"

Not disputing that there are serious effects of silver mining on Indigenous communities but the section as it stands does not show much that is a unique experience of indigenous communities so much as a common course of events when an extractive resource industry comes to a new area. "Workers are more likely to purchase alcohol and binge drink" - many such cases. "Silver mining puts a significant amount of mental stress on indigenous workers due to the long hours of work, rough working conditions, repetitive nature of the work, roster schedules, and potential job loss" - whereas, what, coal miners from West Virginia are immune to such devilish temptations? This section needs to be rewritten entirely to show how the effects of silver mining (specifically silver mining) burden indigenous communities (super broad given that silver mining happens in pretty much every continent so the idea that there is a single set of effects borders the absurd) or it should be removed.
