editI've tried cleaning up this article. I'd like a second opinion before I take down the clean-up message, though.
The romance of the three kingdoms is a novel, a work of fiction which is somewhat based on historical events. Therefore, arguing about how many people zhangfei actually scared off their horse in a novel when it's written there is rather silly.
I dont know
editI dont get how Zhang Fei was able to scare off more than a 1000 man army. I mean they could have gained up on him, or shot him with an arrow.
Though I must give credit to him for being so loyal to his brothers. Like the time Liu Bei was in trouble at Chang Ban, When Zhang Fei, warded off men, if he did.
The thing I think about is that if Zhang Fei wouldnt have drank so much, he would have probably would have stil live through the Battle of Fan Castle.
May we all remember the history that he made on that day in Fan Castle. Whopper 23:51, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
During his service under Cao Cao, Guan Yu spread the rumor among Cao Cao's other generals that Zhang Fei was an even greater fighter than himself, with a talent for charging directly through enemy lines and taking an officer's head. Presumably, every one of Cao Cao's generals present at Chang Ban knew about this, and the reason they didn't try to kill Zhang Fei with archers is probably because, if the attack failed, it would provoke him into action. Another possibility is that they simply didn't have any archer units present. 68.103.160.254 (talk) 06:26, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
May we all also remember the importance of loyalty.
The answer to this question is actually obvious: the cavalries were just so tired after 24 to 48 hours of non-stop riding! None of the pusuers would be interested in duelling him without an order (or potential reward). EkmanLi (talk) 13:28, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Drinking
editWhopper, the drinking part was only mentioned in RoTK, in reality he was most likely a sober man. Cao Wei 10:35 PM, Sunday April 16th 2006
Wrong link
editThe Zhang Bao here still links to the yellow turban Zhang Bao and not Zhang Fei's son.

editThe historical/factual portion of this article is quite short for such a major figure in Chinese history. Considering my background in classical Japanese history, I understand the difficulties in representing historical figures who are known primarily from works of fiction and chronicles which, while based in fact, may exaggerate dramatically the details. Nevertheless, this article could benefit greatly from some cleanup and expansion; the fictional part seems more detailed, thorough, and better-organized than the "main" factual/historical portion. Requested move
editZhang Fei (Three Kingdoms) → Zhang Fei — Disambiguation is unnecessary because the other "Zhang Fei" has his own article in Chang Fei, and the page Zhang Fei is already a redirect to the Three Kingdoms Zhang Fei. _dk 15:44, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

- Just to play it safe, since it was originally moved from Zhang Fei to here. _dk 13:51, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
