Do you want to help build a consensus?

edit

Thank you for re-adding some of the changes I had made; it would have felt like a colossal waste of my time for my good-faith edits to be reverted like that, especially as I had started re-reading the book to verify the information. I would however still like to come to a consensus with MichaelMaggs; if you want, you can come to my talk page for the three of us to discuss. Maybe I'll move the discussion to the article talk page later so I don't get bombed with notifications, but maybe not until the RfC is finished.   Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Novels, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Please do not make significant edits to the Manuals of Style without first getting consensus for your desired changes. DonIago (talk) 05:49, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Pieces of Me (film): you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:34, 26 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your work on the Novel MOS!

edit

I’ve expressed this before but as I see you continuing to work I want to express it again— thanks for tackling the novels MOS so thoroughly and thoughtfully! It’s been a pleasure to see someone putting in the time to make sensible improvements there, and I know it will have a huge benefit for future editors seeking guidance. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 03:19, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for noticing. I'm not sure what to think about this reasoning. I'm not inclined to ping all the editors from the previous discussion, but I don't think we should have to, considering that this point was not the focus of that discussion. 183.89.250.246 (talk) 11:37, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know whether you watch Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. There seem to be issues there, but I guess most of my solutions were not the best. 183.89.250.246 (talk) 18:17, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just wanted to reiterate something that might have got buried in our recent conversation. I think you mean well and do think that most of your edits are improvements, although some more than others. My only slight frustration is the number and speed of them means it's hard to keep track and review them all properly. Please don't be discouraged, keep advocating for improvement, but also remember that being bold in policy / guideline space (particularly one that applies to every fiction article) will sometimes result in reversion. If you're ever in doubt as to whether you might be changing the meaning of something, post on the talk page first. But yes, my thanks as well. Scribolt (talk) 16:09, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Chan Vathanaka. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 06:21, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, this user reverted vandalism as seen in the history of the page. This warning is not warranted. Jolielover (talk) 06:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yep, it was a mistake, sorry! I was intentionally reverting the vandalism and I thought it was the same IP user self reverting the edit and I was intentionally trying to get the article back to the same number of bytes pre-vandalism. I didn't check the IP users. Sorry about that. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 06:25, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

 Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello IP user. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Ad Orientem, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge. Although you're free to perform most tasks on Wikipedia without registering, it's highly recommended you create an account as there are many added benefits. It's private and secure and it's also free, simple, and quick to do.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
    Introduction to Wikipedia
    The five pillars of Wikipedia
    Editing tutorial
    How to edit a page
    Simplified Manual of Style
    The basics of Wikicode
    How to develop an article
    How to create an article
    Help pages
    What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
    Do be bold
    Do assume good faith
    Do be civil
    Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
    Don't spam
    Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
    Don't commit vandalism
    Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
    Ask a question
or you can:
    Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{Help me}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
    Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
    Help contribute to articles
    Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
    Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. If you register an account, you can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you could put a link to it on your user page.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the   button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your IP address linked to your contributions page (however, if you create an account, your IP address will be hidden and you will be able to build a custom signature that can link to your own user page), a link to this IP's talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!
