What does it mean when a username contains "Vanished user"? ReallyAmazingDude13 (talk) 22:44, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @ReallyAmazingDude13: The information at WP:VANISHED might answer that question. Left guide (talk) 00:35, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Walter Payton

edit

Props to whoever added this file to Payton's page. Thanks to that, now we can't have any picture of his face... Nevermind the fact that that image is also in the body, someone thought it was a good idea to crop it and add a close up in the infobox. I guess I could always draw a sketch of him in Microsoft Paint ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:39, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@WikiOriginal-9: Interesting, apparently this was the NFC image used before. You'd think an argument could be made about needing to identify their face. Good luck. Happy Holidays. —Bagumba (talk) 16:14, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@WikiOriginal-9: Another option is to find a newspaper picture from 1977 or before that doesn't have a copyright notice (most dont) and use c:Template:PD-US-no notice. —Bagumba (talk) 16:23, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@WikiOriginal-9: Among the last of the "former Americans" among former All-Americans. —Bagumba (talk) 14:46, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wes Martin

edit

"is an American professional football player who is an offensive guard" Is that what we're doing? The "is" makes it sound like he is a free agent. The free agent wording was depreciated so we don't have to keep updating it. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 05:59, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@WikiOriginal-9: I'm partial to NBA proj convention of "who last played for XYZ". But he is a FA if he's unsigned, no? At some point, he'll be "former". —Bagumba (talk) 06:07, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, he will be former eventually but the point of removing free agent is that we don't have to update it later. For example, if Wes Martin just stayed at "American professional football guard" forever, that wouldn't even be technically wrong. Readers don't notice whether it says former or not. If it explicity says "free agent" when he hasn't played in years though, then readers actually do notice that.
This IP is up to some hardcore vandalism by the way. They keep adding "he spent the summer of 2017 living in Eritrea" to a ton of articles, lol. I reverted everything. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 06:26, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@WikiOriginal-9... the point of removing free agent is that we don't have to update it later: I don't see that as an argument at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League/Archive 20 § Listing NFL players as "former", when it was decided to ax FA. —Bagumba (talk) 07:32, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll assume your warning did the trick for the IP. —Bagumba (talk) 07:33, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
