Notability
editHi there. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (books) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction before creating any more Star Wars book articles. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a database. Not all books warrant a devoted article: those that will never reasonably expand beyond mere plot summary and mention of online reviews (note: Goodreads and similar user-generated review sites are not considered reliable sources) can be mentioned at their author's article, or lists such as List of Star Wars books. Wikipedia is explicitly not for everything, and is not for summary-only descriptions of works. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 03:33, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Citing sources multiple times
editFollowing your Teahouse request, here goes! As you know, web citations take the form "This is the UK Google home page". which you enter into an article as <ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.google.co.uk/ |title=This is the UK Google home page}}</ref>. The ref tags at beginning and end are there because you want the citation to appear in the list of references at the foot of the article rather than at the point where they were placed, which is what happens if you leave out the tags, as I did here.
So far so good. Now suppose you want to cite the Google home page twice in an article. You need to give the citation a name, and that's done in the first reference tag, not within the part in the curly brackets, which is the citation itself. It is good practice to name references in such a way that other editors will recognise them, so in this case we'll call that reference "Googlehome". For various technical reasons I need not bore you with the name should not contain blanks or capital letters except, if you wish, as the first letter. So now the full reference is <ref name="Googlehome">{{cite web |url=https://www.google.co.uk/ |title=This is the UK Google home page}}</ref>. That's what is needed for the first time you use that reference in the article. The next and all subsequent times you just need <ref name="Googlehome" /> Note how I have placed a forward slash and a blank space after the "Googlehome" bit. That indicates to the software that this is a repeat reference.
So, lets check this is all working by referencing for real the first time the Google home page[1] and then referencing it again.[1] If you look at all the underlying code by going into edit mode for this page, you'll see in more detail how it all works. Note in particular that "nowiki" tags can surround some text to tell the software NOT to do the wiki-magic that turns some special characters into, for example, citations. Incidentally, I'm using {{reflist_talk}} here, not the more usual {{reflist}} as I want the references to appear immediately below this part of your Talk page, not right at the bottom.
References
I'll keep an eye on this page for a few days, so don't hesitate to ask further questions here if you have them. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:01, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Mike Turnbull, Thank you! I've always wondered how to do that. I am very grateful for your help. If you want, you can see where I used this handy dandy trick: Force Heretic: Remnant. Happy holidays! Dswitz10734 (talk) 17:35, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Good to see you using this very quickly. Another tip to make editing easier when adding references and other stuff, assuming you use the source editor, is to click on the icon that looks like a pencil (top of the edit window just left of where it says "Advanced"). Once you do that the edit window gets colours which help keep track of the curly brackets and ref tags so there is less chance you will fail to close a reference that you opened. Look at this Section in edit mode and you'll see what I mean, with its green, blue and purple highlights. Happy holidays to you, also! Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:03, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Tgeorgescu. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to 2020 United States presidential election seemed less than neutral and has been removed. editHi Dswitz10734! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Gina Carano that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Specifically, I'm referring to these two edits: [2] [3]. Srey Srostalk 22:54, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
I noticed your edits at The Daily Wire were marked as minor and then noticed you have been warned about this before. Please don't do that. There is actually no reason to ever mark an edit minor, so make sure that when you do it really is a "minor" edit. Such edits do not add or change any content. They only fix minor things like typos and punctuation. Your mistakes can be seen as dishonesty and deceptiveness, and you don't want that. You can be blocked if you do this again. -- Valjean (talk) 19:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

Charlottesville image irrelevancy claim.
editIf you search "trumpism" "charlottesville" on scholar.google.com, you will find that there are 557 articles out of 6790 "trumpism" mentioning articles that find some relevance between the two concepts. If this were not so, I would think you have an arguable claim, especially if the article appears to brand all Trumpists as nazi/ confederate flag wavers- which is clearly not the case. There is further discussion of charlottesville image on the talk page. I would be happier with other images available on the net, but unfortunately we are constrained by wikipedia content rules to what is available on commons or can be uploaded due to WP compatible licenses. J JMesserly (talk) 02:23, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- @J JMesserly Thank you for your comment. Often, when my edits are reverted the editor leaves no explanation, but an occasional threat. Thank you for notifying me and explaining your reasoning. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond; I haven't been on Wikipedia much recently. Anyway, the problem with Google is that it can be biased, along with most news networks that have taken a clear anti-Trump position. However, my goal is that Wikipedia isn't a biased site. If there is significant, hard evidence that Trump supports these long dead extremist ideologies, then it makes perfect sense for the Charlottesville image to remain on the page. But, if this is an act out of radical Trump hate or bias, which I think it is, then the image should be removed. Dswitz10734 (talk) 23:56, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I think that if there is any scholarly source that disputes connection between charlottesville and trumpism, it deserves mention in the article. First off though, I must say that there is an unfortunate confusion between the term trumpism and trump. I have read the bulk of the sources cited in that article, and I think if you took a look at some of them you would agree that when they use the term Trumpism nearly all are interested in what it means to its followers, not its current leader. From this perspective, what Trump actually confides that he believes is far less relevant than what particular sets of followers think he believes. To take Bolton at his word, Trump doesn't have any ideologies, and this dovetails with the "open signifier" analysis that this makes it easier to draw together a disparate set of followers with widely differing beliefs. As for bias? It is a human condition- every information source has a bias. I am not saying most of the news media are dishonest purveyors of propaganda, just that any information source takes a particular perspective. This is also true of academic sources heavily relied on in the article. While they too have academic biases, they correlate less directly with political perspectives, and as for the peer review journals must past muster that they have formed a coherent and supported basis for their argument. The article Candace (show) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Does not pass WP:GNG or WP:WEB. The show does not WP:INHERIT notability from its host, network, or guests. The show is already mentioned on the hosts page.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TipsyElephant (talk) 03:15, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
Your editing at Candace (show)
editThis is a continuation of my comments on the article's talk page....
We do not write hagiographic puff pieces here. Candace is a controversial public figure, so that type of information belongs in her article. We are supposed to add content from RS, regardless of how they "make her look". If you allow such considerations to color your editing, then you are violating NPOV.
Candace is a public figure, so we follow our BLP policy's WP:PUBLICFIGURE concept (we include even the most vile public accusations if they have been mentioned in several RS, and this is far from such a matter). RS document her vaccine denial/hesitancy, so we should document that. Trump, contrary to many of his previous vaccine denial statements, actually took her to task for her ridiculous and dangerous statements about COVID-19 and vaccines and said something very notable, so the content is notable both for him and Candace, and it happened on her show. Obviously, that content belongs in the article. Many RS noted that interesting interview.
I suggest you promptly restore that content before you end up topic banned from the article and subjects like vaccines, COVID-19, right-wing politics, and the whole AP2 area. To make sure you understand that you risk a block for what you've done, I'll leave a couple notification templates here on your talk page. It wouldn't be fair for you to get blocked without those formal notifications/warnings, even though this does constitute a warning which should affect your editing. If you ignore those warnings and repeat your objectionable editing, it won't go well for you.
I would also like to warn you that your creation of the article means you automatically have a conflict of interest, IOW, you must be careful not to exhibit any ownership behaviors. Right now you are doing just that. You need to back off and remain extremely neutral in your editing lest you draw even more unfavorable interest in how you edit everywhere at Wikipedia. Other editors have a right to edit that article and to add properly-sourced content you may not like and that is unfavorable to Candace.
You have received advice and warnings from other experienced editors, but seem to have forgotten. -- Valjean (talk) 17:53, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
DS alert for post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people

DS alert for COVID-19/vaccines
editThis is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in COVID-19, broadly construed. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

AFC review?
editThat doesn’t seem like a fair review. May want to ask the AFC folks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1012:B1B7:9302:4857:7EC3:9B75:2FB0 (talk) 23:05, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Candace Logo.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Candace Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:30, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
Category "American propaganda films" on article "My Son Hunter"
editHello there, thank you for your message. I added the category to your article because I knew that the people who are making the film are strong Trump supporters and want to influence their viewers to oppose Biden and his family, but I can remove it if you want to. Petrandreev13 (talk) 15:54, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Petrandreev13 I would endorse removal simply because all films these days have bias of some sort, so to categorize this film specifically as propaganda seems odd, unless we were to categorize everything with a bias or POV as propaganda. Dswitz10734 (talk) 19:41, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
February 2022
editYou currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on My Son Hunter. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. — Bilorv (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Terror on the Prairie moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Terror on the Prairie, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. The page File:JohnMcGowanNYPolitician.jpg has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appeared to be a blatant copyright infringement of NY Government portraits are not public domain. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. File permission problem with File:Ronna McDaniel at a press conference.png
editThanks for uploading File:Ronna McDaniel at a press conference.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 11:53, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
