WPCleaner 2.0
editHello GünniX.
I would like to inform you that a new version of WPCleaner is available replacing the old version (v1.43) dating back to almost a year. Unfortunately, going from version 1.43 to 2.0 automatically isn't possible and will require a new installation. It's necessary to install version 2.0 to take advantage of updates and bug fixes. Version 1.43 will have to be uninstalled manually, as there are no more updates for it.
The installation procedure is described at Wikipedia:WPCleaner/Installation.
Note: for usage in Bot mode, I strongly advise to check the modifications to be sure that the tasks run correctly

Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh
editDear GünniX. Thank you very much for your recent edit on the article "Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh". I see you are an extremely experienced Wikipedian: more than 150,000 edits! I am impressed. Thank you very much for adding the missing bracket. However, at that same intervention you removed the comma from the quotation "George IV. . [Accession] 29 January, 1820", probably inadvertently; or was this AWB? You do not seem to have noticed that this comma appears in a quotation from Smyth (1839), who uses an old-fashioned date format. I try to conform with the date formats in MOS:NUMBERS, but I believe that quotations should be left alone. Please, be so kind as to reestablish the correct quotation. Sorry to bother you with this very minor issue. With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 04:26, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Johannes Schade, indeed it was an automatic change by AWB. I agree, that exact quotations should be left, but in my opinion it is no really quotation. The exact text in the book is
George IV. . — 29 January, 1820.
I think you shouldn't make a quotation for a single date. On the other hand, the book doesn't show the word[Accession]
after that name – that is even not exact. In my opinion, it is not worth to spend more efford on this topic. But if you really want to roll back to the old date format, use the template{{Sic|hide=y|29 January, 1820}}
that other editors are aware of the old format in the book. Best regards --GünniX (talk) 07:09, 28 June 2020 (UTC)- Dear GünniX. Surely, not a big issue. Actually I do need the date and if I do not have a citation for it somebody will come along and question it. I thought you might want to know what your AWB does. Never mind, I will repair the damage. I do not think it is worth a sic. These dates are very common in the older literature but do not cause any confusion. Thanks for your reply and thanks again for all your other corrections, which I appreciate very much, best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 09:28, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Please warn vandals
editHi.
Thanks for recently undoing vandalism on List of Indian folk dances. In the future, when you undo vandalism, could you please use the appropriate template to warn the user (IP or registered) to stop their behaviour?
There are many different warning templates available to use. Here are some popular ones. Please see their documentation pages for instructions.
- {{subst:Uw-vandalism1}} - For the first case of vandalism.
- {{subst:Uw-vandalism2}} - For the second case.
- {{subst:Uw-vandalism3}} - Third.
- {{subst:Uw-vandalism4}} - Fourth or final warning.
- {{subst:Uw-vandalism4im}} - Last or only warning for severe situations.
Each time we use these warnings they should be placed under the title "==December 2024==" (updated to the current month and year), on the user's talk page. If previous warnings have been given under that title, add the next level warning beneath the others, within that section. Clearly, individual cases must be dealt with as seems fit. If the user has not been actively vandalizing for a few weeks or months, start a new section.
The value of warning is three fold.
- Firstly: it may be heeded.
- Secondly: it allows other editors to quickly see if that user has been vandalizing frequently or recently.
- Lastly: administrators require that warnings have been given before they can or will act against persistent vandals.
If a vandal is on a spree or has reached a level 4 vandalism warning and is currently active, waste no time in reporting them to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.

Thanks for catching my typo on the Va. Energy citation! Not sure how I missed it, other than the fact that my sleep hasn't been the greatest quality of late...
I'm curious, though: Why the removal of the spaces after the closing '>' symbol in the name of each footnote in reflist? That style wasn't my idea; I came across it on other pages and it's easier to read. I tried it out and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it doesn't seem to affect functionality. -- 2603:6081:8004:DD5:6451:2AC4:EB73:1BE (talk) 00:57, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- In Help:Reftags the references are shown without that spaces. For me, the references are easy to read in this way. Some people see it differently, which may just be due to habit. I wouldn't remove it manually, but the WP:AWB tool removed it automatically. I don't want waste time with such small discussions, but I'm happy to see tags in a unique format, which makes editing easier (e.g. when copying references to another article). --GünniX (talk) 09:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Request for review & approval of Wikipedia Page/Article
editHi GunniX, please I need help with my article page with review and approval it has been 6 months now. I will appreciate any feedback. warm regards! George Nyiam (talk) 12:29, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi George Nyiam, I've read your draft article Glowin Ed at your talk page. First at all, you shouldn't write articles at your talk page, it's better to write them as
Draft:
or to use your sandbox (avoid redirects from your sandbox). - I'm no expert for the topic, but it's obvious, that the sections Biography and Early life and education are overlapping. And even the section Biography has no chronological order. You start with born, then you talk about age of 12, but in the last sentence you talk about born again. You should write clear sections (e.g. Early life and education and Career) and the content of the sections should have a clear order.
- You will find more explanations at Help:Your first article and the subpages (Wikipedia:Writing better articles, Wikipedia:Manual of Style, ...). You have to decide, which date format you want to use (either "15 September 1998" or "September 15, 1998", but not both in one article). Don't write an age in the infobox, better use Template:Birth date and age, which calculates the age from the current date. The page WP:REF explains how to cite sources. If you want to become a successful author, it's worth to spend more time to read that explanations. --GünniX (talk) 12:32, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

We have met before with regard to an AWB edit on article "Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh" that corrected a date format in a footquote, where such action is not warranted. You know well I hold you in high esteem and admire you as one of the few Vanguard Editors. As before, most of your corrections are genuine improvements but, with due respect, not all. Thank you, for example, for adding the missing brace and for removing a trailing space at the end of a paragraph.
However, why do you remove spaces between code and an end-of-line comment? For example:
<ref name=DangeauI22> <!-- Dangeau Volume I --> -> <ref name=DangeauI22><!-- Dangeau Volume I -->
I do not see a corresponding instruction in the MOS or any other guideline. This space is there to enhance the readability of the code. With many thanks for all your useful work and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:53, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Johannes Schade, I didn't intentionally remove the spaces. It is an automatic function of the AWB. I think the reason is MOS:COMMENT: "Check that your invisible comment does not change the formatting, for example by introducing unwanted white space in the rendered page." But in that case (white space after a
<ref>
tag) the white space is not rendered. --GünniX (talk) 11:10, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
Help with WuXi AppTec article
editHello. As the COI editor for WuXi AppTec I have posted a request for changes on the article Talk page. I noted your previous edits to other pharma companies and would appreciate your help on this page as well. Thank you, AM WuXi (talk) 16:41, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- I've added only a
Reflist
to the article. The update should be done by an expert for that topic. --GünniX (talk) 01:13, 19 December 2023 (UTC)- Hi, thanks for your feedback. The content I requested to add isn't necessarily industry-specific, rather it is an attempt to update WuXi AppTec's activities since 2019 on the page. I understand, though, if you do not feel that making these changes falls within your purview on Wikipedia. In the meantime, as per my Talk page request, do you think it's appropriate for me to update the company name throughout the article as a direct edit? This does not deal with controversial information and would add a great deal of clarity to the article. Thank you AM WuXi (talk) 21:46, 19 December 2023 (UTC).
- Hello, you should add the date of the company name change to WuXi AppTec with a meaningul reference to the article (e.g. from the history on the companies website) and update the name in the companies history only after that date (if necessary?), but not in the first sentence about the foundation of WuXi PharmaTech). --GünniX (talk) 01:38, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for your response and for adding the name change. I went ahead and updated the various entity names under WuXi AppTec throughout the article. I shuffled around the first sentence in the History section so that it is more company-focused without changing the WuXi Pharmatech name or any of the language. Thank you again for your help! tag changes?
editHi, I saw you changed some tags on text I wrote for Scarritt_College but didn't leave a note on the edit summary - could you talk me through why you made the changes so I can learn from what you did? Is it a rule? Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 00:36, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, have a look at WP:REFNAME. The syntax for invoking a named reference is
<ref name="name" />
. And the reason, why I edited the article was a missing"
in<ref name="Woodard></ref>
. This was listed as syntax error → Unbalanced quotes in ref name or illegal character. --GünniX (talk) 04:21, 8 April 2024 (UTC)- Thank you! I'll try to see if I made this mistake elsewhere, and be especially attentive for it from now on. Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 11:26, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you GünniX!
editHello GünniX, I appreciate your edits to my first Wiki page on Katharine Lake Berz, I literally was constructing a revisions plan in my head over night (including manual and instruction videos again) so when I woke to this, well it was such a grateful surprise. I will take note of all of your actions and hope to pick your brain a bit more moving forward. Thanks again! Lauryngarza77 (talk) 13:48, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

editThank you so much for correcting my stupid typos on AN/ALE-47 and List of U.S. Department of Defense and partner code names... I recently started using the WP app for editing on my phone, and I need to learn to watch for fat-finger problems like that. I really appreciate the corrections. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 18:48, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
