editHello Jzsj,
I noticed at User talk:Cyberpower678 that you have expressed an interest in editing Optatam Totius. I want to remind you that you are "indefinitely topic banned from editing, discussing, or mentioning any articles related to education or schools, broadly construed." As you well know, Optatam Totius is Catholic policy concerning seminaries and the education of men studying to become priests. Seminaries are schools. Editing that article would be a clear violation of your topic ban, and you have recently come off of a three month block for topic ban violations. I urge caution on your part because your next block is likely to be indefinite. I invite Cyberpower678 to comment as well. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:43, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your thoughts ahead of time. I have never consciously violated the ban, but the "broadly construed" seems in need of interpretation at times. Optatum totius is mainly about the religious formation in the seminaries, but with your warning I will leave the improvement of that article to someone else. @Cullen328: Jzsj (talk) 19:07, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. Please keep in mind that religious education is a type of education. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:10, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- You have an impressive record on "accidents" and "inadvertent slips" while editing. Rattling at the door to narrow your topic ban is not a good idea. Please keep Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive1012#Jzsj_topic_ban_violation_June_2019 in mind. The Banner talk 22:47, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- And it must be said, for the benefit of those reading this and not taking time to check the record, that you have very long record of making rash, unsubstantiated charges against me. Jzsj (talk) 12:51, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Pilgrim Church?
editWhat is the pilgrim church from Chapter 7 of Lumen Gentium? What is the difference between the militant church and the pilgrim church? Or am I missing something? Would Pilgrim Church be part of Catholic ecclesiology?Manabimasu (talk) 12:34, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
- "Church militant" and such martial expressions have been replaced, in the post-Vatican II era of ecumenism, with neutral terms that are more modest and humble, less triumphalist. This can be noted in Chapter 7 of Lumen Gentium and consistently throughout the writings of the Council. @Manabimasu: Jzsj (talk) 13:00, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi
editI reverted your editions to Pope Francis because we don't place hatnotes with contents like that. Regards. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 15:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- I fail to see how what I added fits the notion of a hatnote, or is any different from the previous two sentences of the lede to the section, giving another perspective on what follows. I see this as a necessary balance to what the previous sentences state. @ExperiencedArticleFixer: Jzsj (talk) 16:06, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- Refresh your cache and look at your edition. There is a big title like from an opinion piece of a newspaper ("Why do some Catholics oppose the Pope" or something to that effect) as the first thing in the article. I already reverted you again but you can look at it from the history. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:09, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- I suppose you mean first thing in the section. This disagreement must be resolved by consensus, not by your opinion which is far from explained here or in your edits. Why have you placed this here rather than on the talk page of the article? @ExperiencedArticleFixer: Jzsj (talk) 16:14, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- No, I said "first thing in the article". It's right there in my previous message. You are engaging in conversation without reading all of what I'm telling you. There is no need for posting in the Talk page or for consensus because this is not about content. Every editor is going to tell you the same: that text is displaying in the wrong place. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:21, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Jzsj. I'm really surprised you have been edit warring to replace your inappropriate note above the lead, which you first added here (while simultaneously removing the existing, appropriate, hatnote "266th pope of the Catholic Church"), instead of looking at what happened, as ExperiencedArticleFixer nicely asked you to do. I do believe the note was a mistake on your part to begin with, and your latest revert is making it again appear at the top, like this. Frankly, it's making the article look a mess. Please stop edit warring right now and, well, please just listen to what ExperiencedArticleFixer tells you. Bishonen | tålk 16:25, 22 July 2020 (UTC).
- I was just trying to figure out why what I added to the controversies section was eliminated with such a strange explanation. I was completely oblivious of placing my ref at the wrong place ... and didn't understand why @ExperiencedArticleFixer: eliminated my intended addition in the Controversies section. Again, the Wikipedia jargon needs clarification for those of us who are more on the creative side than engaged in oversight. Thanks for your patience with us! and for your clearer explanation. Am I to assume that I may restore what I originally intended, as part of the intro to the controversies section? @Bishonen: Jzsj (talk) 16:57, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- I think I was super clear. You seemed like you weren't fully reading my messages. And I did not use jargon, other than the word "hatnote", which was used in the generic sense of "note at the top". Yes, I would say go ahead and restore it, the content looked fine by me. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 17:03, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Quotation marks within quotes
editSee Wikipedia:Manual of Style#For a quotation within a quotation. If the original text is using punctuation for emphasis we use italics. Quotation marks around words or phrases are often seen as WP:Scarequotes. I still struggle with this and I've a lot more edits than your quite numerous ones. Doug Weller talk 14:08, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: I'm not sure where you found me ignoring this directive, which is also in Chicago Manuel of Style. Are you thinking of when a quotation is blocked off, without quotation marks? My understanding is that this is different than a "quotation within quotes".
- Also, can you direct me to the guideline that would justify the following switch from single to double quotation marks: referred to themselves as 'The Way' ...The term "Christian" ... meaning "followers of Christ" ... Jzsj (talk) 15:54, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Holding hands during the Lord's Prayer
editYou describe holding hands during the Lord's Prayer as common. But seeing the sources, as far as I can see it is an American thing. I have never seen that happen during mass. Not in Ireland, nor in the Netherlands. Could you please rewrite that part? The Banner talk 13:42, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- I have added this qualification. Jzsj (talk) 14:06, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- I note that the practice is gaining ground in England, if not in Ireland. This as acknowledged in a rather conservative Catholic journal. Jzsj (talk) 14:15, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- This person (below) visiting Lourdes explains well what post-Vatican II liturgists are trying to say, that the entire impact of the Mass should be on us, not on God, and so we should use every means to increase this grace. The church is not quick to embrace change; it is seldom caught in few flip-flops. But from what the woman says here, things are moving forward worldwide: "I saw that many others in the basilica had joined hands, and instinctively I reached out for the hand of the person on the other side of me. In that moment I went from feeling like a stranger, to someone who belonged. I belonged not only with the people around me, but with everyone in Lourdes that day, and with everyone praying the Our Father in different languages around the world. I realised that the power of the Our Father wasn’t only in the words themselves – amazing though they are – but in the effect that God’s Spirit has on us when we say that prayer." Jzsj (talk) 14:34, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Your (first) source is American and does not mention England or Great-Britain at all. So if you can add to Mass in the Catholic Church that it is UNcommon outside the USA would be much better. The Banner talk 14:38, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- I need a ref to establish that. No claim is made beyond the United States. Jzsj (talk) 14:41, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- And your second sources gives no evidence that it is common outside the USA. Maybe the woman on the stretcher was with a group of Americans, but it says nothing about others. Please, do not make up things. The Banner talk 14:42, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- I've removed reference to outside the USA; why keep arguing on that point? As to Lourdes, I draw no conclusion from it in the article, but here is what it says: "Many others in the basilica had joined hands, and instinctively I reached out for the hand of the person on the other side of me. In that moment I went from feeling like a stranger, to someone who belonged. I belonged not only with the people around me, but with everyone in Lourdes that day, and with everyone praying the Our Father in different languages around the world." Jzsj (talk) 14:55, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Because we are a neutral encyclopedia. I have now moved it under a separate minor header. The Banner talk 08:17, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Your "minor header" seems to say that all that follows applies only to the United States. I've added your statement to the article, even though the Lourdes account makes no such restriction. This is just one of many refs that might show that this happens outside the USA, and this from the conservative Catholic Herald of UK. Jzsj (talk) 09:06, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

To believe in God
editGod surely exists.
But what is it like to believe in a being who has created a rotting world full of death, evil and ugliness?
Don't you think that this god is as evil as his imperfect creations? Take a look around you, investigate and you will see starving children, congenital diseases, unresolved injustices, lies, moral degeneration.
Such a nauseating world cannot be the work of a good and perfect being. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LudwigVonAndersen (talk • contribs) 19:17, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know why you left this on my talk page: I don't recall editing an article about the nature of God. But I believe we must distinguish between material evil and moral evil. In making us free God allows us to choose, for our eternal personal enhancement, whether to cause suffering or to become Godlike, compassionate, by relieving suffering around us. In Jesus God endured more suffering than will ever be asked of us, precisely to strengthen us to endure physical suffering, for "suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Rom 5:4). As Christians we hope for an eternal reward for all our good deeds in relieving the sufferings of others. Jzsj (talk) 20:04, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jzsj, I don't know why this person left this message, but I thought you might like to know that the account has been blocked as a sockpuppet of banned user JamesOredan, who has been causing disruption in the "Expulsion of the Moriscos" article among others, under various names and IPs. --IamNotU (talk) 00:24, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

I do appreciate any support in editing, and am prepared to come to the support of others. However, I am not an expert on the intricacies of Wikipedia conventions, and as a scientist I often wish that the policies and guidelines were written more "elegantly" (concise, free of lingo, graphic illustrations) for easy understanding.Jzsj (talk) 13:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Sciences requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
