Israel-Palestine is under WP:1RR

A polite but stern warning. Your edit warring around the inclusion of "anti-imperialism" in the infobox could get you blocked. If you are in a dispute like this, It is best to make a post on the talkpage. Hemiauchenia (talk) 06:06, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hemiauchenia I dont think there was a "dispute" or editwarring involved. No objection was raised to the inclusion of this sourced content except one editor who made biased WP:IDONTLIKEIT-style arguments. As you can see from the edit history, other editors also restored this content which was removed. Shadowwarrior8 (talk) 07:23, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Political views of Adolf Hitler

edit

Please read articles carefully before adding content, as nearly all of what you contributed recently to the Political views of Adolf Hitler page is already covered with RS material, which has been carefully vetted. My advice is also for you to find pages that need substantive content expansion, not ones thoroughly worked already with loads of sources, particularly on this sensitive subject area. You are not making the distinction between the development of "political views" and his general worldview, which is content more fitting for his biography—another subject already thoroughly covered. In fact, maybe you should consider starting a page on his "worldview" (Weltanschauung) and make it a subject unto itself. Just a suggestion. Obenritter (talk) 16:08, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

What are you even claiming? Those contents were explicitly his core political views and within the scope of that article.
I suggest you discuss your concerns in the article page. Shadowwarrior8 (talk) 17:25, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
See the Talk Page on the article. Just FYSA, what you added was already more or less pretty well-covered in the content...a few things you added could be included, provided they get properly integrated and contextualized. Nonetheless, I have included some additional expert editors in the discussion in hopes of finding an amenable solution. If you are unable to provide additional contextualization that makes the content you added fit better, I can do it at some point for your edification. Maybe it is a necessary lesson in collaboration for both of us and/or perhaps one of the other editors (among those I pinged) will see a better solution.--Obenritter (talk) 20:15, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
First off, I appreciate your attempt at civility. Just FYSA, I am a bit of an expert on the subject we're discussing, since modern Germany was a sub-specialty for my PhD. In fact, I have actually collaborated with some fairly recognizable names, but I am not here to gaslight. You were right to spell things out a little more on anti-Slavism, but I still maintain this new material needs to be better integrated with the existing content and a section on anti-Slavism makes more sense than the approach you've taken. Please try to follow the citation format being used on the page in the future. Regards and happy editing. --Obenritter (talk) 21:49, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually, after looking at this some more, I think it will be fine with some editorial clean-up and contextualization. My efforts will certainly need a second set of eyes once complete, but your additions were not nearly as problematic as I originally presumed. I think when I saw the inclusion of non-RS like Carruthers, I went into a tailspin more than required. --Obenritter (talk) 22:25, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Salaf Query

edit

The recent discussion got me thinking about the self-identification of the group as "Salafists" in the sense of making me wonder how far this went back. The group has existed since the 18th century, but on the Salafism page, that group has only existed since the 19th century, so did the former only identify as Salafists following the emergence of the latter in the subsequent century, or did they use the same term for themselves based on the "Salaf" base term at an earlier date? Iskandar323 (talk) 14:31, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Iskandar323
Well, the term "Salafi" has been used by Sunni Athari theologians to refer to whom they regarded as righteous scholars as early as the 3rd or 4th Islamic centuries. Thus, the term "Salafi" is found in various treatises and biographical dictionaries of classical Athari theologians. Ibn Taymiyya's writings contain references about a scholarly faction known as "Salafis". Ibn Taymiyya often emphasized about "Salafiyyah", "mad'hab al-Salafiyya", "tariqa al-Salafiyya", etc. Contemporary Salafis use these references to assert that a Salafi community existed for more than a 1000 years.
But as far as I know, the usage of the term "Salafi" as a communal identity began only around 150 years ago, with the emergence of the Arab Salafi movement in Iraq, Syria and Egypt. The activists and scholarly reformers of the Arab Salafiyya movement probably used this identity as a way to distinguish themselves from the state-sponsored religious expression promoted by the Ottoman clergy during that time. I have not seen a single source (academic or primary) where the term "Salafi" was used as a communal identity before that.
I hope my summary was helpful. Shadowwarrior8 (talk) 09:31, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
