Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Decrease
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

- January 2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Reason: Given McCarthy's ousting and subsequent retirement, October 2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election currently being unprotected, and how long ago this election was, I don't see the need for this page to be protected anymore. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 23:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Declined We may yet see a third entry in this series next month, so I as the protecting admin see this request as a little premature.
More to the point, I protected this as ArbCom enforcement (should note that on the talk page) so unprotecting it should probably be pursued through that route. Daniel Case (talk) 03:53, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Protection is too high and it was for sockpuppetry in 2018. It's nearly 2025 now so if it needs protecting just do pending changes or semi-protection but unprotection would be better I think. 147.10.234.99 (talk) 23:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Page has beenECP for over half a year now, due to edit warring. The warring is over 2601:601:447E:8B50:E97B:C008:175A:BA98 (talk) 05:16, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Automated comment: This user who requested protection has been blocked from editing Wikipedia.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 09:08, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Declined Well, the user is only on a blocked /32, one partially blocked only and not from that article. Besides, "the problem that led to the protection has stopped" is never a reason to lift protection, because as frequently noted that's sort of circular logic.
