Cognate with Danish enkel, enkelt, Norwegian enkel, Icelandic ekkil, Dutch enkel and Gothic 𐌰𐌹𐌽𐌰𐌺𐌻𐍃 (ainakls). Compare also Latin singulus with the same suffix.
