I'm just afraid that this novice user Wikiwide, the author of the article, being probably a scientist (you just look at the first version of this article), has a very little understanding of what Wikinews is. And probably has lots of other work to do, is not interested, etc. Even the topic of climate contrarians near UNCCC sounds scientific, doesn't it? I think that if you revive this article, it will be very good

• for Wikinews,
• for this user, and
• for the environment
  • (as some of the "skeptics" or
  • just common diesel car drivers can find this article realistic)

I thought the Wikipedia link I posted might clue people in a bit, perhaps it went unread. If a free press is to act as the "watchmen" then it is up to said free press to decide what is appropriate material to present to the public. And, as I assume you'd agree, that can involve challenging what is legal and illegal in certain parts of the world. Words, I would assert, should be legal anywhere as a basic human right – the sunshine-and-shit principle of free speech. Censorship through the law can be a troublesome area, there are those who will fight tooth and nail to include what they find offensive. I understand why the government got the IWF to add hate speech to the blacklist criteria – it helps recruit morons to their cause. Ironically, the images they might choose to use can be far more newsworthy in illustrating what they're about than simply pretending they don't exist. I do understand the sorta-prudish concerns; but, people need to do their own background research into this and reevaluate their own position. Not censored is not censored, I can't give them all the same education as got me taken off one of the English Wikipedia OTRS queues (I sent a Mohammed image removal complainant a link to Wikipedia is not censored with a footnote see Autofellatio. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 23:34, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

It's a while since the written word has made me burst out laughing, congratulations for achieving it there. Yes, I can agree there. I have long fancied being prosecuted for having a copy of Virgin Killer; while technically it breaches the law as written I am confident that rights law would provide an adequate defence, even if I did have to spend several years fighting and go to Strasbourg to do it. I was disappointed to see the Girls Aloud obscenity thing dropped, that was similarly looking like it would be an entertaining ass-whipping for the police and CPS. Thanks. I'm back from the emergency itself, but I'm leaving the notice up for the time being since I'll mostly be staying away from my computer. I'm only really active here and Wikipedia (admin on both, Arbcom here). Wikipedia is almost a dirty word here; the irony is that even though a typical 24 hours here would earn me a civility block in the Other Place, I find Wikinews to be a more relaxed, easier going project. Of course, with the community small here it helps that in any given argument you know who you're arguing with, and often have done for years. Response to your recent comments:

• You used that word; never mind that you set out to antagonize someone new to WN, that was just petty. I also could have lived with the other colorful language for the same reason; petty. However, a combination of these made it difficult and I proceeded to address it in a manner parallel to the offense and which follows protocol.
• Ultimately, the issue is: Are you the type of person that will allow this behavior to continue and do you understand what it means to be on the receiving end of it? The problem is, I think the answer to the latter part of that question is yes and consider it the very reason you did it in the first place.
• You should know a handful of your WN peers have your back and I'm pretty sure I've made some "Wikinemies" from what was nothing more than an intention to contribute a proposal at the watercooler. People are calling me a terrorist (via a headline no less), amongst other things; not to mention WN is now plagued with that word; as is my discussion page. I have not entertained the hazing or exposed myself to reading offensive material that took others time to write. You are not helping the issue and only contributing to a hazmat area.
• Wiki is a foundation open to everyone, that receives funding from donations and is meant to embrace and enhance the world. It is not a private club made up of exclusive members with organized underground network of rules.

Briefs

I contacted James Pain a while back but when he never replied I just decided to re-launch AW myself. I've rebuilt a lot of the infrastructure to make doing these easier and to spread out the responsibilities so that no one person feels like they need to do everything. Hopefully, in time, more people will want to take part. It would be great if you want to write briefs whenever you can. Don't worry if you can't do them all the time, just jump in whenever you want to and do as many or as few as you are comfortable doing. I have a Wikinews:Audio Wikinews/Workspace page set up for scheduling and on the discussion tab is where all the discussion takes place when making the show. Really, all that is needed is to sign up on the schedule and then as stories are posted on the discussion tab, just add "working" and your time stamp under the story. Disagree with comment deletion

Hi Blood Red Sandman. I'd like to talk to you about this comments page that you deleted. It appears that the comment was mainly a criticism of Wikinews, which I think should be deleted only if it's extremely offensive or disruptive. To remove mild criticisms of our own website would seem to go against free speech (albeit limited) and the very purpose of the comments page, IMO. I disagree. No actual criticism was made. The aim of the game was to trigger an argument. Had they said "very bad website the layout is poor" that would be fine. They are merely causing trouble. They want a reaction, preferably upset people leaping to the defence - but they don't really care what reaction, so long as they get one. Failed article about Obama and appointment

Just come here to rant really. I have had to correct basic stuff on just about every article up for review at the moment, from broken Wikilinks to incorrectly formatted and ordered dates via copyediting, adding infoboxes, adding categories to uncategorised articles up for priority review and a whole host of WN:SG no-nos. I shall point them this away next time someone complains that articles are not reviewed fast enough (especially when people insist on putting in 15 sources). Butting in is perfectly discourteous, rude, and inappropriate. Which is why I do it myself from time to time :). More seriously, I was mistaken in which part of my edits Joe was commenting on. I'm happy enough to let this stand; some may argue pleonasm, but there is some functional meaning in reminding people of rank and title. Mention their title the first time and then pick either their last name or the title to address them as for the rest of the article.

If memory serves he is one of the foundation employees doing work on flaggedRevs (Specifically I think he was involved with making it palatable to the picky en wikipedians).
