- September, The Constituent Assembly had passed a bill in which made the Governor General subservient to the advice of the Prime Minister. Mohammad Ali Bogra was again called to form a new government in which Commander-in-Chief of The Pakistan Army, General Mohammad Ayub Khan, became the Defense Minister. He was the first serving C-in-C to join the cabinet.
- Pakistan joins Baghdad Pact (later known as Central Treaty Organization (CENTO) after the withdrawal of Iraq) and Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), a US-sponsored military alliance to contain communism.
- October 24, Governor General, Ghulam Mohammad, declared emergency in the country and dissolved the Constituent Assembly.
