Avondale–Southdown Line
The Avondale - Southdown line is a proposed railway line between Southdown and Avondale in Auckland, New Zealand.
Proposals
The Auckland Regional Transport Authority's 2005 Rail Development Plan includes the line in its long-term vision for Auckland's rail network, however there has been little development work on the project, and would not be completed until 2030 [1].
Route
The line would connect to the Western line just south of the Avondale Train Station, and connect with the North Island Main Trunk at Southdown Freight terminal (however, the recent decision to reopen the Onehunga Branch may make it more feasible for the line to connect with that branch in the Onehunga township). ONTRACK owns most of the corridor for the line, which follows Oakley Creek and part of the State Highway 20 (SH20) corridor. According to Transit New Zealand the current highway extension of SH20 from Hillsborough to Mount Roskill, makes provision for the line's construction [2].
