Mesut Kurtis (Template:Lang-tr ; born in July 1981) is a Macedonian Islamic singer of Turkish origins. He is regarded one of the biggest stars of nasheed and Islamic Music. Kurtis released three albums produced by Awakening Records; "Salawat", "Beloved" and "Tabassam"[1].

History

Mesut Kurtis comes from a scholarly and religious family of Turkish origin.[2] His great grandfather was a well known scholar at the time of the Ottoman Empire.[3] He came to the UK at a young age to pursue his studies. He studied at the College of Skojpe and then traveled to the UK to study for a degree in Human Sciences at the University of Lampeter. Mesut showed a strong interest in Islamic nasheeds from a very young age. His voice was noticed very early on, leading him to join several nasheed groups in Macedonia that performed in the local social clubs, mosques, and conferences.[4] Mesut’s music is influenced by Sufi, Turkish classical, Arabic and European styles.[5]

Mesut signed with Awakening Records and released his debut album "Salawat" in 2004. It was well received by Muslim listeners around the world after his first music video "Al‐Burdah" which was filmed on location in the islands off the coast of Turkey.[6] Mesut has performed several concerts in UK, France, Macedonia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and others.[7]
