Recent Changes
This article was highly point of view and speculation. It as been changed and cleaned up, if you have issues with the changes please go to my talk page. Excuse me if there is some delay in the changes,(note the Wikibreak). --Sharz 07:58, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Copyvio
The original was a copyvio (amongst other things). User:Sharz fixed it up nicely, but that version has been replaced again by the copyvio. I've reveted back. -- Whpq 20:04, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
The page was taked directly from the Sri Lankan army site which is copyrighted. http://army.lk/com.php --Whpq 20:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- The Army website specifically states
Reproduction of these stories/data is possible provided its source is given its recognition.
- so copyvio is not an issue here. But the article does need to be Wikified hence I'm rv and readding the wikify tag. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 21:03, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
If you read under the edit box "Do not copy text from other websites without permission. It will be deleted.", besides that the article has alot of unesscicary, confused biased and unsourced infomation. Essentially what you've done is reverted an article from being wikified and neutral to be in copyright breach (because the source is not acknowledged anyway) and POV. --Sharz 12:09, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
It is most certainly a copyright violation. Please read WP:C. It has not been released under the GFDL. Qnd even if it were, as User:Sharz pointed out, the article content is not written from a neurtal point of view. -- Whpq 12:51, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Please give reference
Snowolf please provide reference to the claims that you make. Specially the one which states "Pregnant LTTE suicide bomer". ThanksWatchdogb 23:30, 8 April 2007 (UTC).
Mr.Fonseka has to make sure that all the separatist, partisan elements are wiped out of lanka during the operations . No letback in the same. He has to take responsibility for any excape of extremists. It is his responsibility to capture and handover prabhakaran to India, no matter a civilian genocide comes in way.
You have no IDEA as to wuts going on in Sri Lanka. The same city lost almost 1000 people in less than two days because of genocide. If one or two of those people were ur parents, wut would u do? The LTTE is not a terrorist organization. They are fighting for freedom and civilian rights for over 30 years. Albertgenii12 (talk) 23:04, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Military career in the Srilankan Army
/*He has spoken out expressing the sentiments of the majority Sinhala people in Sri Lanka stating that he strongly believed Sri Lanka belonged to the Sinhalese but there were minority communities who were being treated equally like own people. However being the majority of the country, 75%, Sinhala people would never give in and they had the right to protect that country. Furthermore he had said that Sri Lankans were a strong nation. Minorities could live in that country with Sinhalese. But minorities must not try to, under the pretext of being a minority, demand undue things.*/
Regarding srilankan ethnic strife
This is after reference to the book “Declining srilanka: a legacy of jayawardene regime: Cambridge ,2007”. While I do agree that you have tried to present a satisfactory picture of the current scenario and also stepped in with a good call against authoritarianism and partisanship, that destabilized your nation few decades ago, I would also like to make a few observations on what I see are not correct assertions.
First of all it is absolutely incorrect and unrealistic to give a 2000-2500 year history for the current ethnic strife in Lanka. It would be an exercise in pure futility to saddle up in entirety the perceptions, views, moralities and attitudes of current civilizations on those that existed then. Surely they were different people in many aspects and it was a different era. Even in your book you have agreed that a good number of those who claim to be Sinhalese now had actually been lat 16th century immigrants from southern as well as other parts of India. Those mercantile colonizations were mainly sponsored by the upper deccan plateau based vijayanagar dynasty of 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries(not to say the big horde that came down following its decline). Needless to say, many midgetty and petty rulers from Orissa etc may have participated in the colonization that took place in what could be regarded as the dark age of India. A large and certainly majority of those who speak tamil for native language nowadays have also come down from deccan and settled during those days certainly not as great conqueror but as infiltrant and landgrabbing colonists. So it is not correct in manner to consider the late medieval era bogey to be identical with the ones of illustrious chola/pallava times. Even by the virtue of religious practices which mattered not that much, they differed from the ones of chola/pallava era. For example the ones during that era had incorporated practices like proselytization and mercantile religious processions, which were totally foreign to the ancient vedic system. In many cases the members of different strata were encouraged to wear sacred thread and become priests and performers of sacrificial rites and also made members of gotras ( lineages) previously ordained to the members of brahmin caste. This has created a lot of confusion. Also some important temples in south now were actually buddist/jain sites which were converted to vedic shrines with the help and suggestion of buddist/jain patrons of those shrines.
Looking at events and things from a partisan standpoint( of say language, religion, region, etc) etc can lead to colossal mistakes being made as your typecasting people irrespective of origin, and time and character into one. Where as it is certainly possible to say that this approach is not correct, not accounting for the time factor may lead to serious mistakes. A 2000 year timeframe for a dispute of this nature is a sell out. Giving it a 100-150 years time may be optimistic.
***I SHALL WISH YOU WELL ON YOUR CURRENT OPERATIONS AGAINST REBELS IN NORTH.I see that you are the best army commander in the world***
