The fictional Sovereign-class USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) (or Enterprise-E) is the primary setting of the films Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. In Star Trek, it is the sixth starship commissioned since the Federation's founding to carry the name Enterprise.
Template:Spoiler This vessel launched in 2372 from San Francisco Fleet Yards[2] under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
In the film First Contact, the Enterprise participates in the Battle of Sector 001, repelling a Borg attack, and subsequently travels back in time to stop the Borg from interfering with Zefram Cochrane's first contact with Vulcans.[2] In Insurrection, the crew stops a Son'a attempt to forcibly relocate the Ba'ku people from their homeworld.[2] In Nemesis, the Enterprise is seriously damaged while stopping Shinzon from using a weapon of mass destruction to destroy life on Earth.[3] The ship returns to spacedock to undergo extensive repairs.[3]
According to designer John Eaves' blueprints, the Enterprise is capable of saucer separation.[4] The blueprints also reflect the addition of new weapons in Nemesis not present in Insurrection.[4]
Background information
The Enterprise-E is seen active in First Contact (2373), only 2 years after its predecessor, the Enterprise-D, is destroyed (2371). Ronald D. Moore, the co-writer of Star Trek: Generations, and Star Trek: First Contact, has suggested that construction of the Enterprise-E started in The Next Generation's final season (2370), and that the ship was renamed USS Enterprise after the Enterprise-D had been destroyed.[5] The non-canon novel Ship of the Line suggests the originally planned name was USS Honorius, and further that Montgomery Scott was part of the team of engineers that designed the Enterprise-E.
