Vandalizing?

[edit]

Hi Maurice, you recently messaged me about "vandalising" that I've been doing. I'm just slightly confused about that. I really never purposely vandalize at all, and try to make sure my edits are as legitamite as possible. I also don't edit that much, so I don't understand your exasperation... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ibphs01 (talkcontribs) 02:27, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Islands of British Virgin Islands, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the relevant issues at Talk:Islands of British Virgin Islands. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thanks for uploading Image:Zachary Kralik.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 05:59, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Gov sal301205 1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gov sal301205 1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Hi Maurice45, nice that in the Chagos Archipelago article you adopted the table design that I devised for the Amirante Islands, where I tried to show different island types with different colors. The colors are however used inconsistently in the Chagos Archipelago table. We need only two colors, CFC for atolls with land areas and CCF for submerged atolls, and perhaps a thrird FFC for land area atolls without vegetation (Blenheim and Speakers). Also, the individual islets and groups of the mega-atoll Great Chagos Bank should not listed individually here, for consistency. If you don't mind, I will make the appropriate changes to the table.Ratzer 14:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello Ratzer,I hope you would make the appropriate changes to the table. good luck. Maurice45

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad

[edit]

Hi Maurice45, I have been meaning to write to you in response to your edit: [1].

The value or suitability of the categorization of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's article as death from diarrhea is a debatable issue. However the majority of Ahmadi's do agree that he died as a result of complications arising from Diarrhea (and not Cholera). The following links from Ahmadi sites may help:

View of the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement: [2]

View of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community: [3]

I hope this clear things up. I would be glad to be of more help if you need to discuss this further. Best regards, Nazli 04:03, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you did some cleanup on this article. Take a look on the talk page, there is a note about this article needing to be seriously shortened. If you are able can you help? Thanks. Rimmeraj 22:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I noticed too. Hi Rimmeraj :D
Yes Maurice45, you did quite a good job shortening whatever was written and you should help us shorten it even more because at the moment the whole article just contains too much information, most of which is written from a POV. -- Bhavesh.Chauhan Message Me | Contribs 03:20, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baixo Predassa, wrong spelling correction

[edit]

The correct Portuguese name of the Blenheim reef is Baixo Predassa. It is not "Baxio, as it reads now. Since you created the article, it is fair that you redirect it correctly. 116.68.66.97 23:33, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, seeing as the atoll is named BAXIO Predassa, it's best to add that incorrect naming to the article, as it was never called BAIXO Predassa. Good Day.

Fair use rationale for Image:Absalom2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Absalom2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 00:53, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

London Underground lines

[edit]

Hi Maurice 45,

I noticed you deleted a note I put on the East London Line just saying "no" in the edit box. Please tell me why, given the controversy regarding capitalization, this is not relevant? best, Sunil060902 17:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should be in the London Underground article then, and therefore is out of place in the East London Line article

Hi! I have already added the note to the London Underground page, under the "Lines" section. Thought individual line pages warranted their own notes to avoid having to check another page for that info. It's only a couple of lines of text! Best, Sunil060902 17:26, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

East London line now appears in the note! Best, Sunil060902 23:04, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. PREFECTURE APOSTOLIC OF MAYOTTE, NOSSI-BE, AND COMORO (MAYOTTÆ, NOSSIBEÆ, ET COMORÆ).

Mayotte is the farthest south and most important of the group of Comoro Islands: Mayotte (Maote), Anjuan (Inzuani), Mohilla (Moheli), and Great Comoro (Komoro, i.e. where there is fire, or Angazidya). These islands, with Nossi-Bé (large island) and Santa Maria (Nossi Burai, Nossi Ibrahim), form the archipelago known as "the Satellites of Madagascar". The Comoro Islands, with their craggy evergreen shores, look like the cones of submerged groves separated from the mainland by deep abysses. The summits are not all of the same altitude; the highest point of Mayotte is not over 1800 feet, where the highest peak of Anjuan is about 5000 feet, while the central cone of Great Comoro, whose volcanic activity is not yet exhausted, rises to over 7000 feet. Two monsoons, consequently two seasons, alternately affect the climate of the archipelago, which is sometimes visited by cyclones. The soil of these islands is very fertile, and produces in abundance vanilla, cloves, sugar-cane, coffee, etc. The total population is about 80,000, mostly African negroes, often erroneously called Makoas (a Mozambique tribe). There are also some Sakalavas from Madagascar, mostly former slaves freed when the islands were occupied by the French. This Comoro Archipelago was for many centuries an Arabian colony and was once very prosperous. As they navigated along the African coast, the merchants of Idumea and Yemen created a special and interesting type, the Comorinos. Commingled with these Arabian half-breeds, once the sole owners of the country, there are now Banians from Cutch and Hindus from Bombay, who carry on almost the entire commerce. There are also a few European or creole planters and officials from Reunion or Mauritius. In 1843 the French Government, called in by the sultan, took possession of Mayotte, which became, with Nossi-Bé, a post of surveillance over Madagascar. All these islands now form a French colony. In 1844, Mayotte, Nossi-Bé, and the Comoros were made an Apostolic prefecture and confided to the Fathers of the Holy Ghost. In 1898, when the same missionaries were given the ecclesiastical administration of Northern Madagascar, these smaller islands and Santa Maria were attached to the Apostolic Vicariate at Diego Francisco Suárez. Santa Maria and Nossi-Bé have resident missionaries; the other islands are regularly visited.

The population of these islands is largely Mohammedan and therefore strongly anti-Christian; for this reason little religious progress is made. In all of the islands there are hardly three or four thousand Catholics. There are no Protestants. Publication information Written by Alexande Le Roy. Transcribed by Dennis P. Knight.

Réunion Demographics

[edit]

Hi,

We keep undoing each other's edits, so I think it might be a good idea to talk about why I am asking for a fact to be clarified.

In your edits to Réunion page you've said that "In fact, descendents of Biharis constitute a larger proportion than the Urdu-speaking population". I don't see where fact is coming from and would like a reference for it. It's certainly not obvious to the world at large the relative sizes of the Réunion population!

I'm not disputing which groups of people make up the population; you are probably right. I just want this statement referenced back to a reputable source (See Wikipedia:Cite_your_sources and Wikipedia:Wikipedia_in_brief).

I'll add your talk page to my watch list so we can continue this conversation.

Best Regards Stormcloud (talk) 13:40, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi

now that I've reread my edits, I understand where you're coming from. I agree - I won't remove the tag anymore".

Now coming to the facts - While I would like to back these up, there seems to be a major lack of sources online. But I must stick to what I said about Urdu-speakers not being an ethnic group. The clocest I came to finding a source was this: http://indiandiaspora.nic.in/diasporapdf/chapter6.pdf but it seems to be more heavily in favour of Tamils abd overlooks the remaining non-Tamil population (this, though not backing up what I said about Biharis, certainly clears up what I said about Urdu-speakers) --Maurice45 (talk) 17:51, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure how reliable they are though, so I decided to see how other articles tackle this subject. Demographics_of_Mauritius takes it's info from the CIA World Factbook See 1553-8133. From this I get Ethnic Groups as:

  • French
  • African
  • Malagasy
  • Chinese
  • Pakistani
  • Indian

My copy of the book (which I admit is a bit old) doesn't have a % break down where Mauritius does, and it doesn't have the detail you are talking about.

Any ideas? cheers Stormcloud (talk) 22:15, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi,

As it stands the above is one of the few sources of information available about the demographics of Réunion. However there are a couple of major faults:

  • The African and Malagasy groups, identified by the CIA World Factbook, are in fact the single Creole ethnicity, and usually have some degree of European admixture
  • Indians, who were brought in around the time slavery was abolished, constitutes a significantly larger proportion than either Chinese or Europeans. This was even before Pakistan gained independence in 1947 (I can't back this source up 100%, but most of the Indians were from Gujarat or South India, nowhere near present-day Pakistan) and self-identifying Pakistanis, if any, wouldn't constitute a significant enough number to be listed

Apart from these, I think the above could be put in until enough evidence is gathered to make necessary corrections --Maurice45 (talk) 15:10, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed your editorial comment about IMDb. I'm slightly curious about your positive experience with it. Awhile ago I had an editor tell me sternly that "anybody could put anything in the IMDb". And that hence, it wasn't valid support for notability. (In that particular case, I must say, he appeared to be correct.) Any thoughts? Piano non troppo (talk) 20:23, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your answer on my talk page. With investigation, I found other significant information. To be honest, the upshot is that as an Wiki anti-vandalism editor, it's probably unnecessary to question IMDb citations, except in unusual circumstances. Your message to me

[edit]

Hello SalilBudhe,

I know you are new and are unaware of the guidelines of Wikipedia.

Your edits to Krazzy 4, while much appreciated (especially as you spaced out the paragraphs), contained links that you added on your own accord (including vulgar terms). This in against the policy of Wikipedia, so please bear that in mind next time

Cheers, --Maurice45 (talk) 14:22, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

It was done unintentionally. I hardly edit anything except for grammatical mistakes and paragraph changing. Mostly I do reading stuff. I am sorry for my mistake. Actually I'm also sorry about seeing this message too late.

Sinhalese

[edit]

Ya, I know Sinha is derived from the same source as Singh. Infact, I was the one who added that information on the Singh Page. However, with reference to Sinhalese, I think their needs to be a written reference that links it to the Singh surname. Infact, the same is the case with 'Sen' surname used by Bengalis, which was removed due to lack of reference. Mauritius - Language section

[edit]

On the Mauritius page, you recently modified the language section, stating "put back to atime when it was less like a guide book and more like an encyclopedia and add stuff myself" as justification for your modifications.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to contribute to the Mauritius page. However, as you know, Wikipedia is based on the contributions of many people and the writing style of some might not suit your personal tastes. Feel free to modify that but to remove whole paragraphs of researched information and to replace it with a paragraph with no reference whatsoever is bordering on vandalism.

Thank you for your understanding.

Island names in Diego Gracia Atoll

[edit]

Dear friend, show me maps or documents that list the minor islands of Diego Garcia Atoll in French rather than English? I'm certain that most maps that will turn up with a Google Image search will list the English names, like East Island. But the burden of proof is on you, since you changed the article List of islands in Chagos Archipelago.--Ratzer (talk) 17:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, While I am aware that the maps will be in English, but you have to be practical. The rest of the article ilsts the islands under their French names. Why should Diego Garcia be any different? Anyway here's a link: [16] --Maurice45 (talk) 17:11, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed most of the islands do have French names, but some do not (other examples are Danger Island and Nelsons Island). There is no rule about it. You might want to go to the USGS Geographic Names Database and download the British Indian Ocean Territory File. For the minor islands of Diego Garcia Atoll, the French translations do not even exist as a name variant.--Ratzer (talk) 05:46, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

indki are not Hindki

[edit]

Dear Sir I find you is discussion forum at Hindkowan page. In my opinion, District Indkai and Faryab province seems to be place of Migration of Indki (Hindki) to recent location. They migrated to recent places alongth with Baluchs and Pashtu speaker. and Pashtun call them Inkai as singular and Indki as plural perhaps with the reference of their previous location as later they lost their native language. Some how they got segregated by main tribes because of change in native language. The same happend with Niazi's and Baluch's of D.G.khan when they married local girls so there is possibility of change in native language but important is blood line. if it is derived from Hind Why Hindki term is not used for Punjabi's of lahore. Culturally these tribes are more close to Pashtun and Baluch. It is strange while that within punjab the indentity with Hindko is seldom found and commonly used word in history for a country is is Bharat instead of Hindostan. Most of Historian confused their origin with by using incorrectly the using the word Hindki . please oblige me with your opinion?Zarrigul (talk) 14:21, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion is about redirecting List of Mauritian musicians (one of your articles) to List of Mauritians#musicians. Colonial Flag of Mauritius

[edit]

Hi, i'm FCNantes72, I know the mauritian flag since its independance (1968), but I see on the article two flags on colonial times and I want to know the description and why Mauritius had changed its flag in 1923? There are the same thing (Union Jack, coat of arms) but the differences are the size of the coat of arms and the retreat of the white circle and the coat of arms takes more place. Is it the same blue between the two flags? Do you know the meaning of the changing? Say me if there are some mistakes, I write without dictionary and I want to develop my english. It will be interesting to know the flag history. Since I had travelled on Mauritius, I want to develop articles about Mauritius (mo conten Moris), and after football, I want to develop in french article about flag, because there is not explanation about flags. completely unsourced and I have notability concerns, noting that "Hinduism...play(s) a very small part in the island's culture."

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
