County-level location maps & road symbols

Hello Omnedon! First of all, great work uploading all those location maps, especially the county-level ones. However, I have a thought / request... most of these maps prominently label the route numbers of exterior roads entering the county. Is this "really" necessary? It seems like unneeded clutter for the most part, distracting from the location pin, the actually relevant item which appears smaller and less prominent than the road markers. And the road markers are only useful if you were trying to use Wikipedia maps to drive to a location, which would be a really bad idea (use Google Maps / car GPS). Is there some reason to include those that I'm missing? I suspect I'd be in favor of removing them, or perhaps splitting the location maps into a with-road-symbols and without-road-symbols version. Thanks! I understand what you mean, and considered it at the time I was making them. In my opinion, though, the highways and markers provide valuable context. They're not intended to provide directions at all, but I believe it's important to show a town's location with reference to major roads, and not simply the borders of the county. When and if I make more, though, I'll certainly keep what you've said in mind. Omnedon (talk) 02:20, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess my two cents is just that this isn't very valuable context IMO - people who live in the area will know what they are, but likely won't need the context itself as much, as they already know the county. People who don't live in the area will have no clue about county-level roads and only might recognize the most famous ones - I-95 or the like - so it isn't helpful for them, the most important audience IMO. People who live in the area are likely to know about the place already. And I don't label county-level roads. I label state, U. S. routes, and interstates. These are major roads. Omnedon (talk) 14:33, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
