Wayne Peace is a former American football quarterback. He was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida in 1961 and attended Lakeland High School. He attended and played football at the University of Florida and became the Gators' starting quarterback 5 games into his freshman season of 1980 when several injuries propelled the rookie into the lineup. He performed well and kept the starting job for the next 3 1/2 seasons.
At Florida, Peace threw over 7000 yards and still ranks second in school history in career completion percentage (61.6%). During the 1982 season, he set an NCAA record for completion percentage (70.7%) which was broken by Steve Young the following year.
Upon graduating, Peace signed with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League in 1984.[1]. After leaving professional football, Peace started an insurance agency in his hometown of Lakeland. He also serves as an assistant football coach at Lakeland Christian High School. He is married to the former Melanie Britt, and they have 4 children.[2]
