The 2014 Murfreesboro mayoral election took place on April 15, 2014. Incumbent Democratic mayor Tommy Bragg decided not to run for re-election to a third term.[ 1]
Republican candidate Shane McFarland defeated Vice Mayor Ron Washington, becoming the youngest person elected as mayor in Murfreesboro history.[ 2]

The 2018 Murfreesboro mayoral election took place on August 2, 2018. Incumbent Republican mayor Shane McFarland ran for re-election and won a second term in office with an uncontested race.[ 6] [ 7]
Murfreesboro has been a Republican stronghold. In the 2016 presidential election , Murfreesboro voted for Donald Trump by 19.0% and voted for Bill Lee by 9.6% in the 2018 gubernatorial election . During this time, Phil Bredesen was the most recent Democrat to win Murfreesboro by 0.4% in the 2018 senate election .[ 8]

Murfreesboro has been a Republican stronghold. In the 2020 presidential election , Murfreesboro voted for Donald Trump by 8.4%, voted for Bill Hagerty by 12.8% in the 2020 senate election , and overwhelmingly voted for Bill Lee in the 2022 gubernatorial election .[ 14]
