The Internet Junkbuster is a web proxy that can block ads and cookies.[1] As of 2000 it functioned by checking requested URLs, including those for images, against a blocklist.[2] It was developed by the Junkbusters Corporation and released under the GNU General Public License.[citation needed] However, the Internet Junkbuster has not been updated since 1998[citation needed] and the junkbusters.com web site is no longer maintained.[3]

Privoxy is an up-to-date filtering proxy based on the Junkbuster code, but it is much more powerful.[citation needed]

Junkbuster's developers at one point released Guidescope, a consumer version of Junkbuster.[1][needs update]

Reception

[edit]

A review by InfoWorld in 2000 gave it a score of "Good" but criticized it for the technical knowledge needed to modify the blocklist by manually editing a .ini file.[2]
