Who gets crowned with the iron crown in 781?

[edit]

The paragraph currently does not make it clear whether King Charlemagne gets the crown or his son Carloman/Pepin. If the latter, why not say he gets anointed and crowned rather than switching subjects mid-sentence? If the former, maybe end the sentence and then start the next one wih "Pepin is crowned".
