Adat in other languages?

I've heard the word used regarding Chechnya, I think to describe Islamic traditional law (i.e. different from Indonesian usage). I'd guess they're from the same origin (Arabic?) though coincidence isn't impossible. --Singkong2005 07:47, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adat is the Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi word for "habit" or "custom" - Sbaldwin on Oct 22, 2006

I have also heard about it being used in chechnya and dagestan in the caucasus, it actually refers to the same thing as the indonesian usage - non islamic local customs
