Propose renaming and moving page to "Melid"

[edit]

Since this is an archaeological site, it should be listed under its contemporary name (the usual rendering is Melid[1]).

I assume you mean 'historic' name? In any case, it has a modern name (and so presumably a modern settlement) and that name is used to identify the archaeological site (cf. links on page.) -LlywelynII (talk) 11:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Panoramic movie of site

[edit]

Is located here. Not sure how (or whether legal) to include it on the page, though. -LlywelynII (talk) 11:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name change to Arslantepe

[edit]

Official name is frequently used than 'Melid'

Please don't. Having the real name instead of the turkish name helps a lot. having all these turkish names a gloss over the authentic ancient anatolian names greatly obscures the history.

Article

[edit]

I cleaned up the archaeology and the early period things and pulled a few weeds but the post 3rd millennium, Neo-Hittite etc, part needs much work. And I won't reopen the naming argument but I note that the site appears, as far as I can see, to have only been called Melid by the Neo-Assyrians and briefly at that, while having several earlier names. So it should be Arslantepe but that is water under the bridge.Ploversegg (talk) Ploversegg (talk) 16:08, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ploversegg Are you sure? I'd be happy with move I think. Doug Weller talk 16:52, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, an article title search for Arslantepe turns up 20X the number for Melid and some
of those are about some obscure beetle. And when a site has different names in different periods
I think its good to stick with the "archaeology" name to avoid confusion. Plus, I
hate on modern names for sites as it can attract unwanted attention. So yes I would
be comfortable with a move.Ploversegg (talk) 17:36, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ploversegg Ok. Doug Weller talk 17:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've poked at this article a few times in the past but now I see that it is a much more Notable site than I earlier appreciated. Ploversegg (talk) 17:49, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
