2008 Olympics

[edit]

This happens every 2 years in some country. This is not a significant event. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlbarton (talkcontribs) 15:54, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. And debated before. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:03, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

???

[edit]

I cut this from the article as the history indicated it was from a blog and therefore WP:OR. Perhaps more importantly, it appears to make no sense at all. I'll leave it here in case it means something to someone :) WaysToEscape (talk) 04:50, 10 June 2009 (UTC) :[reply]

2008 In Phi Knit Knot Point in Spacetime: According to escatology, the Fibonacci sequence, as do the scriptures and prophecy's of many cultures like the Chinese, Christian, Celtic, and Maya, this day is claimed to be of special significance to the general transformation process of time itself and novelty. This structure of time was rediscovered in the I-ching in 1970 by Terrence McKenna calling it Timewave Zero.

This is not a significant social milestone. The major minority barriers have already been broken (black and female). Being Latina is not a sufficient distinction to merit inclusion. We can't reasonably expect to include every new racial group going forward forever. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 12:34, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First night game in Wrigley Field

[edit]

The first night game in Wrigley Field occurred on this date in 1988. Why isn't this included on the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.99.18.9 (talk) 03:44, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Earth Overshoot Day

[edit]

In 2016, August 8 was Earth Overshoot Day, which marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. External link here. Worth mentioning? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robuer (talkcontribs) 10:06, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Straight Outta Compton

[edit]

In 1988 the album Straight Outta Compton was released. This was one of the most influential albums in Hip Hop, it pioneered a new genre of rap, namely gangsta rap, as well as a new sound, which was a significant step away from Hip Hop's disco and dance music roots, and toward the harder style of music that is still predominant.[1] This event is definitely significant enough to warrant mention.
