Origin of tradition
[edit]The Preston North End website states that the parade started in 1948 after a greengrocer in Bamber Bridge packed a coffin full of vegetables and buried it following Preston’s relegation to the old Division Two. However, Preston were relegated in 1949 (Blackburn in 1948) so there is confusion over how it originated.
