I added a bit about the use of cermets as future spacecraft shielding. I saw it on a science news show once, and it was very impressive. A high speed impactor completely destroyed a series of five one inch thick aluminum plates, a smaller number of steel plates (four IIRC), and only managed to severely mangle the first cermet plate (It was not breached).

I am trying to find a link to something about it and as soon as I find it, I'll add the link.

Spark Plugs

Ceramic, yes. Metal yes. But for the life of me I can't see where there is any cermet in a spark plug. I stand to be corrected.

Correct, devices that combine ceramics and metals are not cermets. Much of the "bioceramics" section probably does not belong on this page either. Also Silicon Carbide and Silicon Nitride are not cermets, although they can be the ceramic part of a cermet with the addition of some metal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.131.125.50 (talk) 17:41, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
