I'm confused with when generation 1.5 occured. I have info. to confirm the front fascia had a minor update for 1998, not 1996. I would appreciate if someone would correct my mistake if I am wrong. Bavaria 21:56, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia, driver side sliding door.....

Chrysler introduced the DRIVER side sliding door in the late 90s
minivans have had passenger side sliding doors since the 80s with the first Chrysler Caravan. Ford didn't want to have to completely redesign the windstar so in order to be "competitive" with the double sliding doors, the windstar had bigger front doors. much like a coupe has bigger front doors.

Windstar/Aerostar

The first generation Windstar was instroduced in the very early 1990s with the same body style as the Aerostar. The Aerostar was discontinued shortly thereafter. Ford rushed to produce the Aerostar when they saw the popularity of the Dodge Caravan, knowing that the Aerostar was going to be temporary until they could get a good product on the market - the Windstar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.49.9.65 (talk) 21:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Windstar was introduced ~1994/1995 with its first generation body design. The Aerostar was still in the market, mostly as fleet sales, until 1997. The Aerostar was Fords attempt at creating a minivan in 1986. Since they have never done it before, they decided to design it after the Ranger, thats why the Aerostar has the 3.0 vulcan engine and is RWD.
the windstar is also far from a good product, 3.8 headgasket failures, electrical problems, and weak/old AXOD-E transmissions. Achang1 (talk) 10:19, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In some ways, the article needs to be re-written when it comes to comparing the Aerostar and Windstar. I'm not speaking from an opinion so much as from facts...the Windstar is NOT smaller than the Aerostar (it's between 11-25" longer, depending on which version of the Aerostar you are comparing it to, and I could go on from there). Also, while the Aerostar has high parts commonality with Ford's light-truck lineup, it is a unique platform of its own...not some haphazard design some make it out to be.
