Gregs ties to PA

[edit]

I have noticed that last night Greg knew alot about Allentown, and before he had mentioned diffrent little towns in NorthEast PA, which suprised my because I am from that area. So does anybody know what kind of ties he has to this area? I know this isnt a forum and I really shouldnt be asking it on the talkpage, but depending on what his ties are they could help the article. Fisha695 22:29, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NY mosque

[edit]

I removed the bit about the ground zero mosque and the strip club. It's not really newsworthy and was a tongue-in-cheek comment rather than an actual political stance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.155.154.172 (talk) 00:40, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, it was reinserted. I have no problem with it being there. If a publicity stunt intended as an obvious joke merits that much of a mention, then it probably is telling of the quality of the news program. Shabeki (talk) 10:13, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Greg's bio

[edit]

Has Gutfeld denied that he's Jewish? Where is the source that proves he's "Irish"?DVDburner123 (talk) 19:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well the name Gutfeld is German (meaning The Good Field) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.164.234.206 (talk) 16:55, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know he's catholic (he's mentioned it a few times on the show) But I'm not sure about the Irish part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.203.228.156 (talk) 22:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

he was a guest on the oreilly factor and bill said something to him about being jewish, to which, greg responded by saying that he was not jewish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.202.138.73 (talk) 08:07, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian Forces Controversy

[edit]

I'm being less bold as this page has been semi-protected and this is a bit of a controversial topic right now. On March 22, 2009, Gutfeld issued an apology via Twitter. Being unclear on whether this is valid for inclusion, I've included the links: Flickr and Twitter. If there's no objection and I can't find a reason for not including, myself or someone else can add. MikeSoron (talk) 20:36, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On March 24th, Greg was the recipient of the most ignorent sob in this planet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.186.212 (talk) 02:39, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have a more formal apology I'll add, and include the Twitter statement. MikeSoron (talk) 21:43, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The twitter post was denied by Fox News who stated that Gutfeld doesnt not have twitter and did not write that.. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/tv/story/2009/03/23/redeye-soldiers-mocking.html ..last line of article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.229.224.77 (talk) 02:59, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Gutfeld does not have a Twitter account. The Belgian comment is a fake! http://www.publicpost.ca/2009/03/outrage-hypocritical-canadians-military-fox-news-red-eye-greg-gutfeld/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaiatlasZ (talkcontribs) 03:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Cdn Forces controvery should be noted, this is the only reason I, and many Cdns I imagine, have even heard of him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.183.70.15 (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy sections are not uncommon for biographical articles and especially if the individual's actions receive international attention. In this case they did and I've restored the controversy section that was removed wholesale in 2014 without explanation, discussion, or summary. I do note that there was some imbalance to the sections and have reworded the Canadian apology section. In regards to WP:UNDUE/WP:WEIGHT, it's a commonly misquoted policy here on Wikipedia. It's a policy regarding minority viewpoints. WP:BALASPS does come into play here, but I think the event is significant in that it was widely covered, commented upon, and followed upon. The article is still not very long and more should be written about this person's career, but not at the cost of removing notable sections. Especially considering this comedian has built their entire career on making shocking statements. Arguably making it as more relevant to their career section than perhaps in most biographies. Mkdwtalk 21:29, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Three paragraphs comprising approximately the same length as the "career" section about GG apologizing to Canaduh for a bad joke. Seems legit.2604:6000:FD8B:5C00:2159:79AA:A3C7:1FD1 (talk) 13:10, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Prime Minister Zoolander[reply]

History of foot-in-mouth disease

[edit]

Considering his history of flippant and insulting behaviour (i.e.: cracks about the Canadian armed forces, the gay bar at Ground Zero, Mariam al-Mansouri), and getting regularly into trouble for it, this article should include whatever the current approved Wikipedia wording is for "has a reputation for being something of a dick." Is there a style guide to cover this? If so, I'll gladly do the edits myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.84.215.133 (talk) 08:24, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 04:12, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"is an American comedian"

[edit]

{{citation needed}} right there. <half-hearted rimshot> Most third-party descriptions seem to lead with "TV host", so I'd have thought that due weight would suggest we do likewise. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 10:11, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agree 100%. Weight certainly requires the first adjective used to describe him not be "comedian". Le Marteau (talk) 14:18, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a reference from the Independent[1] that describes Gutfeld as a "comedian". Iamreallygoodatcheckers (talk) 18:50, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

References

  1. ^ "Fox News' much-mocked new 'comedy show' Gutfeld! replaced by news". The Independent. 14 April 2021. Retrieved 19 March 2022.
That's great, but the question is not whether some sources refer to him as such, but the relative weight as compared to those that refer to him in other ways. Le Marteau (talk) 19:02, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
He's primarily known for hosting a late night comedy show, so him being a comedian seems relevant. Iamreallygoodatcheckers (talk) 19:16, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think you misunderstand what we are discussing. I am not disputing he is a comedian, and neither is 109.255.211.6. All we are saying is, it should not be first on the list of his occupations. Le Marteau (talk) 19:17, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You said it yourself. He's primarily known for hosting a late night comedy show. He is NOT primarily known for being a comedian. Le Marteau (talk) 19:19, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point. I would say I'm neutral on removal. Iamreallygoodatcheckers (talk) 19:30, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it needs to be removed. How about this? Gregory John Gutfeld (born September 12, 1964) is an American television host, political commentator, comedian and author. with your citation to him being a comedian?
That's good. It gives comedian less emphasis. Iamreallygoodatcheckers (talk) 19:40, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me too. He's definitely being paid to comedianise, after all. Then again, so once was Laura Ingraham, and by the same employer, at that But if one googles "gutfeld comedian" one gets this article... then twenty-odd hits saying things like "comedians appearing on his show", "comedians slam GG", etc. And then his facebook page. (I joke not, but someone surely should.) "TV host" seems to be the predominant descriptor, so anything that leads with that seems more sensible. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 20:55, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elena Moussa Russian?

[edit]

Reliable sources are severely lacking for this. Greg has stated a number of times on air that she is Ukrainian and worked in Moscow. Furthermore her mother was evacuated from her home in Ukraine by FOX news. Wlmg (talk) 20:19, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Wlmg: We have a news story from the Washington Post stating she's Russian. I'd hardly say we're "severely lacking" in sources. —C.Fred (talk) 20:24, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Statements about statuatory rape

[edit]

Hi all! On May 23, Gutfeld ran a segment on his Fox News show which has picked up quite a lot of news coverage, primarily from left-leaning publications:

We know that the event happened, so there's no real concerns about reliability for the existence of this event. Additionally, the amount and depth of coverage strongly indicates that this is a relevant topic for inclusion.

The question is how to frame this in the controversy section. My initial thought is to use the MediaMatters, ComplexNetworks, and New Republic articles to add some prose about the details of the event, then maybe an in-line attrib and quote from one of the articles which would depict the controversy aspect. Unsure on an optimal subsection title. Thoughts? Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 22:00, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is he antisemitic?

[edit]

On July 25, 2023, on Fox News, Greg Gutfeld inferred that the millions of adults, children and elderly who perished in the holocaust, died because they were not skilled or useful. He expressed a deranged take-away from Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search For Meaning." His smug attitude about the holocaust as exhibited on that broadcast was bizarre and heartless. HelperHelper1 (talk) 13:45, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if he is anti-Semitic. However, his comments on 25 July 2023 in which he implied that the Holocaust had benefits for Jews were notable and generated substantial media attention. This included direct criticism by the Auschwitz Memorial[1], the White House[2] and Holocaust survivors.[3]
In the exchange, Gutfeld's co-host rhetorically asked whether the Holocaust had "some benefits for Jews." Gutfeld immediately implied the answer to that question was, "Yes," by citing the author Vik Frankl in a manner that the Auschwitz Memorial called an "oversimplification."[4]
This article should be updated. 108.35.254.133 (talk) 18:58, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Change from “Tarlov, who identified as Jewish” to “Tarlov who states she is Jewish”

Please see https://youtube.com/watch?v=HX0IBBi15-s&feature=sharea

In min 1:42 Tarlov makes the comment she is Jewish vs “Identify as Jewish”.

Please note that the word “Identify” is also historically a very bad word to use in this context. For instance during the second world war there was no way to “Unidentify” for Jews and to escape the holocaust Juvaljp (talk) 00:24, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
