Domesday Book

[edit]

The 2007 Surrey Domesday Book reference supporting the claim that Ham is mentioned in the Domesday book is now dead. Both PASE and Open Domesday assert that Estreham relates to modern day Streatham, not Ham.

The cited Domesday entry; (Philmore reference 8,15) relating to Haimo's holdings (See PASE results for Streatham and Open Domesday (4th entry)) comes immediately after the entry for 'Patricesham' (Petersham) (See Surrey Page 6) so I too would have assumed that this relates to Ham. However, if I understand the Domesday Book article correctly (probably not!), the entries are not necessarily arranged geographically but by who held them.

None of the printed references I have to hand claim that Ham is mentioned in Domesday, but they all refer to the Petersham entry. I have therefore removed the claim that Ham was mentioned in Domesday until there is another reference out there to support it. --KenBailey (talk) 21:39, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
