A petroleum prospect is a feature which geologists believe may contain petroleum

doesn't make any sense what is the feature?

Agreed. The term 'geological feature' may be more appropriate

Hydrocarbon Exploration?

[edit]

Most 'oil' companies explore for both oil and gas. In many cases both are found in a single discovery. Exploration for oil is no different to exploration for gas in its basic techniques and I propose that this page is renamed to Hydrocarbon exploration, any comments?. I defiantly agree with your point (and was about to make the same point here). Since there has been no other discussion, I'll make the move. +mt 21:10, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I was about to disagree (5 years too late?). Page names should relate to "common usage" (not "political correctness"). I don't know of any companies that have a Dept. of Hydrocarbon Exploration, but I used to work for Chevron's Dept. of Petroleum Exploration. 74.60.29.141 (talk) 15:18, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History section needed

[edit]

History section would be really interesting and useful to the article. What was it like 100 years ago? What measures were taken to move away from total guesswork? Comet Tuttle (talk) 22:29, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
