POV

[edit]

"Often derided as clingers-on to the tail end of Britpop, Mansun are considered by a loyal fanbase to be one of the finest rock bands of the 1990s."

Any 'loyal fanbase' is going to regard the object of its affection to be great. This paragraph is POV, so I am going to remove it. Beerathon 00:14, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"The band produced a large back catalogue of recordings that are still held in high regard by their loyal fanbase." I'm going to edit this sentence for the above reason. --Strangepalefighter 02:22, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but the article is now too anodyne - it does not give casual readers any idea why the band were so great. -- Beardo 19:15, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Draper

[edit]

for now paul draper directs to the mansun page. but he's goign to require is own page, shouldn't it be created soon? or at least stop 'paul draper' from directing to mansun so it can be made when required.Chadwholovedme 12:43, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mansun six.gif

[edit]

Image:Mansun six.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Rock and Roll"?

[edit]

On most of this band's album pages, they are described as being a "rock" band, but the word "rock" is wikilinked to "rock and roll". I don't think, by any stretch of the imagination, they have all that much in common with Bill Haley or Elvis Presley, so I've reset the wikilinks to "rock music" Dom Kaos (talk) 13:50, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mansun.png Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]
An image used in this article, File:Mansun.png, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

I am afraid that I don't really follow the detailed rules regarding referencing. I think that change created a conflict as there was already a reference called archive1. I have renamed both as different things to remove the conflict - I don't know if there is a rule on naming references. -- Beardo (talk) 23:26, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing the cite error. Cyberbot just fixed the body of the references, not the ref name. Karst (talk) 07:06, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Take It Easy Chicken

[edit]

Take It Easy Chicken now redirects to this page. That leads to various unneeded links, and redirects back to this page. Before I tidy those up, I would like to suggest restoring the single's own page - I think there was enough there to warrant that, and I cannot see any discussion when the redirect was done. -- Beardo (talk) 05:32, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It did chart (just) - the article was quite substantial. I will restore it. -- Beardo (talk) 04:09, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It lacks substantial references to indicate notability. And the title is confusing. Is the article about the EP or the song? Check WP:SONG for notability guidelines. @Drmies: was right to implement the redirect last year. Karst (talk) 07:15, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Britpop

[edit]

Is Mansun considered Britpop? They seem too progressive and dark to be called Britpop. It would be helpful if a person who is knowledgeable with the era can help. Dean12065 (talk) 17:39, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, definitely part of Britpop. Polyamorph (talk) 20:03, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Compilations?

[edit]

Could someone please add information on the two compilations released in 2020 (Dead Flower Rejects and Closed For Business) which are listed in the discography article but not here? Thanks!
