[edit]This reads very POV-ishly - but I'm not an expert in the subject, so I'm loath to mess too much. Pseudomonas 10:47, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
"best Message Passing Interface (MPI) library available": an encyclopedia does not determine this sort of thing 74.130.102.155 17:11, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Stolen from http://www.open-mpi.org/ : "Open MPI is therefore able to combine the experise, technologies, and resources from all across the High Performance Computing community in order to build the best MPI library available." vs. "Open MPI is a project combining technologies and resources from several other projects (FT-MPI, LA-MPI, LAM/MPI, and PACX-MPI) in order to build the best Message Passing Interface (MPI) library available.". Or "A completely new MPI-2 compliant implementation, Open MPI offers advantages for system and software vendors, application developers and computer science researchers." vs. "Open MPI offers advantages for system and software vendors, application developers and computer science researchers." etc.pp. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.179.18.189 (talk) 09:36, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I was going to add something like this:
but I wasn't really sure where to put it. Reference here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/multicore.html --Earin (talk) 19:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

What is it for?
[edit]I don't really care that it is used by the world's fastest computer or that it is a merger of other software projects. I gather it is some sort of message passing protocol, but what sort of messages passed between what and over what? And what sort of thing could it be used for? The overview does not explain much at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.41.222.1 (talk) 07:13, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
