Paraphrasis

[edit]

"A paraphrase (from the Greek paraphrasis)" -- Added this, as some articles mention the Greek word but don't define it. Anybody care to add the correct spelling in Greek? (I can guess it but not be certain.) -- Writtenonsand 12:09, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this definition is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.154.52 (talk) 08:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. This is not a good definition of paraphrase. A paraphrase means a retention of meaning transmitted in new or other language. It is a translation within the same linguistic code. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.166.16.74 (talk) 14:58, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the national heart lung blood association endorsed exercise as a way to reduce stress, and recommends cardiovascular exercise that elevates the heart rate for 15 to 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.202.141.169 (talk) 14:33, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is quoting the word 'paraphrase' to paraphrase it?

[edit]

I did a bit of searching (not intensive or thorough/deep, mind you) and found consensus on the definitions of paraphrasing as well as when to use it - but did not 'find' any discussions (let alone from fairly reputable sources) on whether referring to the act itself (noun) by use of itself (verb).

I found some discussions but one notable one on Quoting vs Parenthesis [1]

Also, the use of quoting as parenthesis is itself not defined.[2] Skopp (talk) 16:14, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is the graphic from Daniel an example of paraphrase? Is it helpful?

[edit]

I do not think the graphic is a good example of paraphrase. I do not believe it is actually helpful if somebody is trying to understand the concept. But, I can't think of any other graphics to substitute. What do others think? Pete unseth (talk) 16:41, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Close paraphrasing?

[edit]

Shall I add a section on what close paraphrasing is? Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 22:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The conclusion may be the shortest paragraph, but it’s also the most important because this is what the reader will remember. A conclusion usually does these things:

Connect to the last sentence of the previous paragraph

Use an advanced style. In conclusion, to summarize, at the end are rather boring and typical although they will work. Try to be more sophisticated by repeating or connecting ideas in another way.

Summarize the findings of your paper

Remind the readers of the paper’s main ideas and wrap up your argument. o Restate the thesis in different words/phrases.

o Briefly summarize the main points of your paper. Again, say these in a different way, so readers are not bored by repetition of the same sentences and phrases.
