Nice article! It is very thorough, and well cited and researched. Some suggestions, largely concerning format:


Overall:

- Make Wikilinks for terms when they are first introduced; for example, "translation" is not linked in the introduction, but is linked later in the body. Add the link to the introduction, and optionally remove it from the body.

- Include Wikilinks for unlinked biology terms, including but not limited to GDP, GTP, inorganic phosphate, etc.

- Scan for spelling and grammatical errors. "Shine-Dalgarno" is misspelled in the Structure section, and a word is missing in the third sentence of the Translation section, among others.

- You could include a "Main Article" link in the Translation/Function section and put a "See Also" for antibiotics at the end.


Introduction:

- Change the first few words of the introduction to be the title, "The prokaryotic small ribosomal subunit, or 30S ribosome,..."

- The "mRNA" Wikilink appears to be broken.


Translation:

- I would title the section currently titled "Translation" as "Function" instead, with the first sentence of the section describing the main function of the 30S subunit, as it currently does.

- I would suggest putting "structure" before "function", as the former determines the latter.

- "(3')-AUG-(5') codon" can be simplified to "start codon". More generally, keep in mind that the audience for this article is (hopefully) mostly not biologists.

- If you refer to it as "SD sequence", introduce it as such the first time: "Shine-Dalgarno (SD) sequence".


Structure:

- Phrases like "measures in at 26 amino acids" are somewhat colloquial and should be avoided. In this case, "is 26 amino acids in length", for example, sounds more neutral.

- The details about helix and protein nomenclature seem unnecessary. Consider instead calling them "helix 45", "protein subunit 11", etc. and limit the number of elements named to an essential few, if possible. Perhaps comment broadly on the shape instead.


Inhibition:

- Put the word "antibiotics" before the names of specific antibiotics, since the general concept will be more relatable to a broad audience. For example, "...site of inhibition for some antibiotics, such as..." or "...targeted by some antibiotics, such as..."

- The word "Finally" seems inappropriate. There may be other inhibitors, even if they have not been discovered yet.

- The last sentence of the section seems redundant, and perhaps could be integrated into the first sentence.

Please clarify the sentence about AUG and Shine-Dalgarno; it is not clear what is complementary to the Shine-Dalgarno (the sentence could be erroneously interpreted to mean the AUG binds the SD). Also, what does the second binding site bind to ("another binding site"), and is this new site in the small or large subunit? Please check for consistency of capitalization for f-Met and 30S.
