picture showing migration routes of sons of Keturah

[edit]

the following picture was removed from the article by Dougweller on aug 4 of 2009:

Known emmigration patterns of Abraham's children to Katurah; excepting those of whom insufficient is known.

the reason given being 'remove pov image - we don't and can't know if any of these people were real, and image suggested we did'.

I wonder if we couldnt simply change the caption to something more acceptable to everyone. Lemmiwinks2 (talk) 22:13, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. It doesn't appear to me that we actually know the route in any case, as to know the route we would have to know where the named dstinations were. I should have added that to the edit summary I realise now. Dougweller (talk) 08:07, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dougweller, this image does represent what is accepted by the academic community regarding these individuals from the shards of clues and information available.

But essentially we must bring to them the same criteria that we bring to any other individual from ancient historical documents: primarily that of 'innocent until proven guilty'. Since the biblical account claims to be factual and furthermore is widely accepted as being so, especially of those who claim direct decendancy, we can only conclude that it is so until we have a sufficient body of evidence to indicate otherwise or atleast provide reasonable doubt.

You yourself indicated that we do not know if these people even existed which implies that this article is of a religious nature, and so it is marked as being just that: a Religious Stub article.

Either way, as representing current factual understanding or as a representation of belief, the image is true and acceptable within the framework of Wikipedia and the nebulus of human knowledge. Yet I will concede that the title could change as proposed by Lemmiwinks2. Therefore I will repost this image with the following subtitle: "Apparent and approximate emigration patters of Abraham's children to Keturah, excepting those of whom insufficient is known to draw a conclusion." --Avanduyn (talk) 23:50, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In all probability

[edit]

I assume the following

In all probability, Abraham tried to keep them apart from Isaac to avoid conflict while fulfilling God's commission to spread out and inhabit the globe.

is taken from some source. The existing footnotes merely reference the Bible and Josephus. At the moment, it looks like WP:OR, I've tagged it. Surely someone can find professional speculation, instead of our own? Choor monster (talk) 14:22, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
