Full disclosure: The originator of this article is a cousin of mine having his first experience with Wikipedia.

He contacted me for advice so I did a little googling and am posting a few references to the term from scientific literature. It appears to be a bit obscure but a legitimate term. This was only a cursory search so more in depth information can probably be found. References I found include Clinical Management of Binocular Vision. Scheiman & Wick. 2008. pp. 216, 256, 272, &c. as well as Practical Optometry 5:6, 1994. Warshowsky. pp. 264-268. The first Google Images search result is a fractal image from the website of a Physics professor at the Univ. of Wisconsin, Clint Sprott.
