Birth year
[edit]You can find her birth registration with the state of New York through Ancestry.com; it says she was born October 15, 1949 in Manhattan. The 1949 birthdate is corroborated by public records on FamilySearch and FamilyTreeNow.
A state birth registration is concrete unless it were a different Victoria Blum who happens to have the same birthday. As for public records, they can be wrong if the person put a fake age down, but in this case the records support what the birth registration says.
But wait, there's a twist. Other public records associated with her most recent address (see FamilySearch and FamilyTreeNow) list her year of birth as 1959! It would seem she shaved six years off when she started her professional career – hence the commonly reported 1955 – then at some point shaved off an additional four.
The obits are saying 1955 because that's the year media outlets kept on file from her '80s publicity. If she hadn't been out of the news for so long, People magazine or whoever would have made the discovery a lot sooner.
Props to Tanya for keeping her age under wraps all this time. She looked younger and pulled it off. But now that she's dead, there's no reason to continue this contrivance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suprosa (talk • contribs) 02:47, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- Such PRIMARY sources that you've dug up can be used to support claims, but not make them. Sorry, but we follow what's verifiable. Kingsif (talk) 15:51, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
If media outlets said she was born in 1955, why do these ones cite a 1954 birth year? https://digital.bentley.umich.edu/djnews/djn.1998.06.12.001/77 https://people.com/archive/critics-call-her-sheena-shame-of-the-jungle-but-tanya-roberts-wont-take-it-lying-down-vol-22-no-11/%7C https://www2.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b9fbd2e56 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cobretti1 (talk • contribs) 16:47, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- She was clearly born in 1949. People who lie about their age are often inconsistent with the lie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suprosa (talk • contribs) 20:04, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Suprosa: What secondary source supports 1949? —C.Fred (talk) 21:33, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Agree that it should be changed to 1949. 1955 is blatantly false, as the official records prove, but also she was not ~24 when she was starring in Charlie's Angels but rather ~30. The guidelines on sources on Wiki are just that. Guidelines. Occasionally it's acceptable to bend these. Common sense should be abided by here. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 18:46, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- I only have access to ancestry.com; however, there is very little information on it, and I don't see how one can deduce that this is the same person from it, as there are 3 mismatches compared to information given by The New York Times and by The Guardian: the birth year (1949 vs 1955), the exact place of birth (Manhattan vs Bronx), and the exact birth name (Victoria Blum vs Victoria Leigh Blum). Could someone who has more information from FamilySearch and FamilyTreeNow post it here? — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 18:57, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- 1949 is confirmed by the 1950 census. See Special:Diff/1080527623. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 21:20, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
- Find a Grave also says 15 October 1949. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 21:52, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Is this necessary?
[edit]Is this passage necessary?
The 1950 U.S. Census shows that, as of April 1950, the Blum family lived in the hamlet of Hewlett in Hempstead, NY and that Oscar Blum was a sales executive for a pen manufacturer. In 1956, Tanya and her sister lived in Scarsdale, New York in a home built in 1950. Tanya's parents purchased the Scarsdale home new in March 1951 and sold it in January 1958 to buy a property in Greenburgh, New York that same month. Then he went to get a cup of coffee. Tanya's father sold the Greenburgh property on his own in July 1961.
Do we really need to know about the buying and selling of her childhood homes? And what's the meaning of the line about the coffee? 50.48.196.16 (talk) 02:29, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
