Protection

[edit]

When hovering over the padlock indicating semi-protection, it said it would be protected until December 19, 2011. More than a year has passed and it's still in effect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.64.251.152 (talk) 22:54, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on WJLA-TV. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Subchannel changes

[edit]

Maybe a good idea to hold changes to the subchannels until they actually take place or there's a specific announcement of some sort? MeTV's still on WJLA.Arnold Rothstein1921 (talk) 20:18, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MeTV still hanging in on 7.2. I'm going to change it back to MeTV. If anyone wants to revert, please cite a source here.Arnold Rothstein1921 (talk) 18:10, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cable news channel merged

[edit]

With the merger of the TV station with the Cable new channel, the cable new channel is a signal or subchannel of the TV station not a sister station.

  • Channel to cut 30 in WJLA merger: "The Springfield channel, "News Channel 8" which has roughly 125 employees, also plans to dismiss most of its personnel and business departments, turning those duties over to WJLA."
  • Advice is free for news chief at WJLA: "Congratulations on your appointment last week as news director of the newly merged WJLA-TV (Channel 7) and NewsChannel 8." "Last fall, the company even shelled out $20 million to merge WJLA with NewsChannel 8, creating the largest local television newsroom in the Washington area."
  • Sinclair Rebrands Washington Cable News Network: "NewsChannel 8 has long shared the TV station's news resources, including reporter and anchor teams, so now the branding will match up with that reality, as well as spotlighting the TV station's news resources at a time when Sinclair has been pointing out that commitment to Washington." "'[T]he new name is a logical brand evolution for the nearly 30-year-old Washington-area cable news institution,' the station said in announcing the change."

With the merger and the use of the station's ID for the cable channel, the TV station produces the cable channel. thus it a cable only subchannel not a sister station. Spshu (talk) 18:56, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Spshu: WJLA 24/7 News is a separate, cable-only signal, not a subchannel of a broadcast station. Thus, even though the newsrooms have merged, the broadcast station and cable channel are still two separate entities, making them "sister stations". Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:30, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Read above, they are one entity, having one general manager, one HQ, one news director and shared back office ("...also plans to dismiss most of its personnel and business departments, turning those duties over to WJLA."). You edit against the sources. The sources express indicate a [merging: "to cause to combine or coalesce; unite." Signals of a TV station's signal are considered subchannels over the air and cable channels over cable. The cable signal comes from WJLA. Spshu (talk) 19:33, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Spshu: But WJLA 24/7 News is not a broadcast subchannel; you won't find it over the air. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:49, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Did not say that it was over the air, that is why it was marked "cable" it is still a "subchannel" as an output signal of the station as the broadcasting subchannels could just as easily be termed channels. Spshu (talk) 18:22, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Plus the Other Channel field gives back "translator" not "other channel" nor allows an over ride label. Spshu (talk) 14:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Spshu and Mvcg66b3r: I think that WJLA-TV and WJLA 24/7 News are sister stations and not merged as a subchannel. And can you two stop EDIT WARRING?!?! 192.101.255.184 (talk) 19:52, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

←That is against sources given above. Spshu (talk) 20:20, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
