Religion
I mention this only because of one thing: His grandfather, Ichiro Hatoyama was a Baptist. Is Yukio a Christian as well? Lockesdonkey (talk) 18:43, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether Yukio Hatoyama is a Baptist or a Taoist, but I mentioned Baptist cause his grandfather was a Baptist. --Zainichi Gaikokujin (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
His grandfather's religion is immaterial to whether Yukio is or is not Baptist. This needs to be cited or otherwise it should be removed. Thanks. 216.96.203.174 (talk) 11:01, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Need work -> French article

Nickname
Reuters is reporting that his nickname "the alien" refers to his large eyes: "Japan's new first lady says rode UFO to Venus" http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE5812DV20090902. A Japanese friend tells me it's his general facial appearance.114.161.253.11 (talk) 11:53, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

- No - it's a reliable source stating that his nickname is based on his "prominent eyes", mentioned unsurprisingly in an article about his wife's Out-of-body experience. I've also heard from Japanese that he gets called alien because of his general appearance. I've seen a few jokes in print media headlines referring to outer space (宇宙から来たetc). It's a sound reference.VsevolodKrolikov (talk) 11:46, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Are you sure he didn't study "engineering management"? "Managerial engineering" sounds like the study of designing business organizations.114.161.253.11 (talk) 11:53, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

About Category:Japanese Christians
Is Hatoyama really a Christian? Is there a reliable source to support it? I'm Japanese but I have never heard of it. I know his father (Hatoyama Ichiro) was a Protestant, though.--220.104.247.244 (talk) 05:07, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I haven't heard of it either and I did some brief searches in English and Japanese and I couldn't find anything that indicates that he is Christian, or even what his religion is if any. Note that the Japanese wiki article has no mention of his religion. I think that category should be removed. Tweisbach (talk) 05:37, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Resignation: "Deal with Obama"
This article states that "Hatoyama had made a deal with U.S. President Barack Obama to retain the base for security reasons." But can you find a citation that actually states Obama and Hatoyama were personally responsible for the deal? If not, it seems to warrant a bit of revision. (For example, both the NPR and Reuters articles referenced in the same paragraph state that there was a deal "with Washington," but that isn't the same thing as with Mr. Obama, is it?124.100.38.38 (talk) 08:17, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Again, now there is reference to a deal "which was issued by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada and Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa." Where is either Hatoyama or Obama in this reference? Nowhere. The State Department and Foreign Ministry of Japan are neither Obama nor Hatoyama in person, and I think attributing the deal to these two individuals instead of their governments is misleading. Shouldn't it read "the Obama Administration" or "the US and Japanese governments" instead of "US President Barack Obama" if you can't prove it was at the instigation of these individuals agreeing per se??
Seems like a desperate attempt to hyperlink this page to Obama's page (and by reference, linking "Obama" with the "unpopular" policy of keeping bases on Okinawa. 124.100.38.38 (talk) 16:03, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Have added ref for Obama mention. —fetch·comms 20:00, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Surname first
Aren't Japanese surnames supposed to come first? Throughout this article all Japanese names have the surname last. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.201.251.230 (talk) 13:52, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Real cause of resignation?
He mentioned the Okinawa business as the primary cause. Does it mean the US forced him to resign? 212.188.109.90 (talk) 17:48, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
