Edit Request

{{editprotected}}

Could an administrator please add the following code:

[[Category:{{{1}}}'s Bots]]

in includeonly tags? It would be incredibly usefull for tracking all bot accounts by a specific user.

Thanks! Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 09:59, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

☒N Not done This would create a lot of redlinked metadata categories with names that don't follow the normal naming conventions; please gain consensus for something like this first. (A better name would be something like 'Wikipedia bots operated by {{{1}}}'.) --ais523 10:02, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Gap after tag

{{Editprotected}}

There is a gap under the all the tag code between where the actual bot message ends and the <noinclude> tags start. Please fix, and make the <noinclude> tag appear immediately after all the tag code ends. +spebi ~ 08:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

I've known editprotected requests on other tags in the opposite direction, requesting the addition of space under the tag so that when multiple tags are used on a page they don't join directly onto each other but instead have a gap. That's likely to be less of a problem here, though. Do you think that despite this, the space should still be removed? Does anyone else have an opinion on this? --ais523 08:10, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I believe the gap should be removed, and if other users want a gap to separate the tag from other tags, they can add <br /> to the end of the tag.
A table with no gap in between itself and the next table, create a nice, neat gap.

It is slightly different with div tags, which probably makes other users' feel the need to add the gap at the end:

See how the borders are touching each other?

+spebi ~ 08:38, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Oooh! Adding class="messagebox" creates a small space between each tag. +spebi ~ 08:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

So what edit exactly should be made? --ais523 16:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Make the noinclude tag start on the same line that the tag table code finishes:
|}<noinclude>{{Bot/doc}}

instead of

|}

<noinclude>{{Bot/doc}}
Thanks, +spebi ~ 21:32, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Done. Cheers. --MZMcBride 05:34, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Excuse me, is it just me who finds the svg version ugly? It is only slightly resembling its "original", has broken lighting which in turn breaks the 3D effect entirely (not to mention that it has not "Crystal Clear" feel whatsoever). Edits in future

Just to warn everyone ahead of time that there is discussion going on the bot owners' noticeboard regarding a proposed overhaul of the categories that govern bots and their classification. In light of this, this bot template could be used as a much more powerful tool in future. Don't worry, all existing templates will still work! Sort of  Done - it's the documentation that is now causing the problem. Any ideas how to fix? - Jarry1250 (t, c) 14:26, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
It can be fixed through substing in the template on the /doc page, and then removing the categories, but I'm not sure whether that's desirable seeing as it will clutter the documentation quite heavily. Richard0612 17:43, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Unapproved bots

When the template is set with status=unapproved, it says:

This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn, and therefore should not be editing. Administrators: if this bot is making edits to pages not in the operator's or its own userspace, please block it.

(emphasis added). The two sentences are slightly inconsistent. I suggest changing this to something like:

This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn, and therefore should not be editing except in the operator's or its own user and user talk space. Administrators: if this bot is making edits to other pages, please block it.

(changes highlighted). This makes the two sentences compatible with each other and with policy, which allows unapproved bots to edit inside their own and their operator's user / user talk space.

Probably unnecessary disclaimer: I'm about to create such a bot. Olaf Davis (talk) 10:10, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

"Alternate"

{{Editprotected}} Please change "legitimate alternate account" to "legitimate alternative account"; not only would this correspond better with the actual link, but this phrasing is more acceptable internationally (not excluding the United States), rather than "alternate", which is mainly American and even there is not always recognised as standard. WP:ENGVAR? Anomie 03:53, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Not really... "Alternative" remains correct in the United States, but "alternate" is not considered its synonym anywhere else, so I'd say it makes sense to use the form which is correct everywhere. See also WP:COMMONALITY, which I now notice features a particularly relevant example. Waltham, The Duke of 04:10, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
I support this change. Alternate is perfectly acceptable for two accounts, but that's presumptuous. Alternative works for any number of accounts. Josh Parris 06:48, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
