The Pakistan Pro League is the top-tier of Pakistan Football League System played by clubs in Pakistan, It is operated by Pakistan Pro Leagues (PPL)
Format

[edit]Regular Season
[edit]The regular season runs from Late August to Mid February, 12 teams play a double round robin and the winner of the regular season wins the league. After the regular season is over, The 12th placed team is automatically relegated to Pakistan Pro Championship, The league splits into two concurrent rounds: Championship Round and Asian Round.
Championship Round
[edit]Championship round runs from Early March to Late April. Teams placed 1st to 5th in the regular season play a double round robin round to determine the teams who qualify for Asian competitions. The 1st placed team qualifies for the AFC Champions League Qualification Round 1, The 2nd placed team qualifies for the AFC Cup Qualification Round 1 and the 3rd placed teams advances to the AFC Cup Qualification Play-offs Final.
Asian Round
[edit]Asian round runs from Early March to Early April. Teams placed 6th to 11th are divided into groups of 2 and play a double round robin round. The winners of the groups advance to AFC Cup Qualification Play-offs Semi-Finals and the last placed teams in the groups get automatic relegation to Pakistan Pro Championship.
AFC Cup Qualification Play-offs
[edit]The winners of the Asian Round groups play a two-legged tie in the Semi-Final of the Play-offs and the winner plays a match against the 3rd placed team in the Championship Round in the Final at the Lake View Stadium.
Rules
[edit]Teams are required to have a minimum of 3 Homegrown Players, but other then that they are free to sign any players they want but they can't exceed their expenditure more than their income.
History
[edit]The Pakistan Premier League was the only league running in Pakistan, it was criticized for being unprofessional so that led to the Pakistan Football Federation president Faisal Saleh Hayat and his companions to resign from the federation and were replaced by new members. The new members formed a new professional league known as Pakistan Pro League. The old teams were re branded and the players remained at their old clubs.

The 2017-18 Pakistan Pro League is the inaugural season of top-tier football in Pakistan. It will begin on August 27, 2017, and end on May 20, 2018. The previous teams were rebranded and renamed, the players who were already playing in the league will be put in a pool of players who would be sorted by their ability and skills so that each team gets a chance to get better players. Teams were given around 3 Million Euros in their finances to start with and then the club owners and sponsors can give money in the club finances
