Fair use rationale for Image:ForgottenSins.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ForgottenSins.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Fair use rationale for Image:Ksfojohn.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ksfojohn.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Proposed deletion of Thom Beck

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Thom Beck, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free image (File:Credibility Gap Shearer Lander McKean.jpg.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Credibility Gap Shearer Lander McKean.jpg.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 18:23, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As the image is non-free, it must comply with our non-free content criteria. As the subject is still alive, it is replaceable with a free image (what's to stop someone taking one? Or donating one?) and so the image cannot be used. J Milburn (talk) 21:33, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I have knocked the image down to thumbnail size in one of the other articles, and removed it from another. J Milburn (talk) 22:00, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doug, could you please be so kind as to have a look at this and tell me if I'm completely wrong in my opinion about that label's "notability" !?! StefanWirz (talk) 09:49, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Henry-Mancini.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 05:53, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Henry-Mancini.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Henry-Mancini.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:49, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Henry-Mancini.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Henry-Mancini.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:40, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Gary Theroux, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=120615229214.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

PragerU

[edit]

Hello. I am a little puzzled by your creation and use of the {{PragerU}} template. Could you please explain your goal with this? As I see it, the addition of a link to Prager U video lectures for every single lecturer potentially violates a host of policies and guidelines such as WP:ADV, WP:ELPOV, WP:ELMINOFFICIAL, and WP:PROMOTION. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 20:19, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Each edit was an improvement to its page (as all edits here should be). In addition, they generally consisted of adding a WP:RS, since what could be a better source on an academic than a short lecture from her? (This is always encouraged here, and is something that many pages are lacking.) Shouldn't every page about an academic or other writer include a lecture from her, if one is available? There is no rule against finding a good online source and making good use of it.
Anyway, if you have better sources, please add them. And if they also provide everything these lectures do, then please replace them. If we disagree about any of these, we can discuss them on their pages. DougHill (talk) 04:13, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm baffled by your response. You're not using these links to support any content, so their reliability is only tangentially relevant. Even if these lectures are "reliable" (for what?), we don't throw random reliable sources into "External links" sections. This strikes me as a violation of the policies and guidelines I've listed above. Please respond to them, and in addition please disclose any connection you have with Prager U. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:10, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is no policy against finding a good website, and citing different pages on that site on the different and appropriate pages here. If you believe that this is not so, then you should please report me to the administrators. Otherwise, you should assume that my actions were the good faith edits that they were, and work with me on those pages to improve them. DougHill (talk) 21:22, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Of course there's no policy as you describe, but there is a policy against advertising and promotion, which appears to be the intention here. Why the hesitation to answering my question about your connection with Prager U? Are you serious about wanting me to report this to the administrators? I was thinking of taking a less extreme route (such as a non-admin noticeboard or an RFC) but if you insist I can go straight to ANI. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 04:46, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You have an additional 24 hours to respond before I take this up on the noticeboards. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:11, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:PragerU has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:45, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You've lost me with your weird reference to "TNTFNOT." You seem like a smart guy. What's so difficult to understand about the concept of violating multiple policies/guidelines at the same time? --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 07:25, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We've found the appropriate forum. So if you have questions, please ask on that forum, and I'll respond there. Please save this page for required notices. DougHill. Je suis Charlie. (talk) 04:26, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Country Walk case, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Robert Rosenthal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Important Notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in climate change. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Singular "they"

[edit]

Hello, Doug. I broadly share your views on the singular "they", but I see you have fairly recently edited My Word!, where I have this very day deliberately perpetrated one in the second sentence of the third paragraph of "Later series". It is beyond me to write "during her time" here, which I don't think would help the reader. What think you? While I'm here, you have added a red link to RadioEchoes: do you think it probable that there will ever be an article about that website? I feel red links to potential articles should be used reasonably sparingly, and am not sure about this one. – Best wishes, Tim riley talk 21:37, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
