GentleDjinn: I am not Lagoo sab

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GentleDjinn I read about a suspicion of being a sockpuppet of Lagoo sab, which I am not. I even never heard of him or her before today. Regards GentleDjinn (talk) 10:51, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Henri Goovaerts

[edit]

Hello GentleDjinn,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Henri Goovaerts for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Gfosankar (talk) 14:43, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • That was way too quick on the draw; the article does make a valid claim and it's not that hard to find some sources. GentleDjinn, I tweaked your Tjeerd Bottema a little and I just wrote up Swiebertje. Please add references to reliable sources to the articles you create, if only to stave off overeager editors. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 17:27, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wrote Prix de Rome (Netherlands) for you so those redlinks turn blue and a claim of importance is more easily seen. But I have to insist that you stop creating articles without a single reference--it creates huge amounts of work for other editors, esp. if you rely on those other editors to help prevent deletion of what you just created. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 17:42, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wikilinking "painting" in an article on a painter is not very helpful. Maintaining that it is is a bit silly. Please add edit summaries to your edits. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 22:32, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Gunnar Røsbø has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. The article Jan Knippenberg has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A page you started (Goûter Refuge) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Goûter Refuge.

I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

Great article, but is there any possiblity of sourcing the info in the body with inline citations? I added a few to the lead sentence to demonstrate notability (so that it doesn't get flagged for deletion by sombody) but that doesn't help with the verifiability issue. Where are you getting you info about the Refuge? We should be citing the article's content as much as possible to reliable sources.

Goûter Hut - you beat me to it!

[edit]

Hello. Over the last 18 months or so I've been working on a draft article on the Goûter Hut. But (grrr!) you beat me to it - so well done. Feel free to take a look at my draft and extract anything that may improve your article. See User:Nick Moyes/sandbox/Gouter. I'll take a more detailed look at your article in the weeks ahead and add anything you've missed off. (Were you aware of the random urine sampling for drug use that took place at the Goûter and Cosmiques Hut a few years ago?) It's fascinating stuff I'd not yet added to my own draft. By the way, per WP:COMMONNAME, and discussions at WP:WikiProject Alps, it would be more appropriate on en.wiki to have the article named Goûter Hut, not Goûter Refuge, but that's a minor point we can deal with later. I'm really chuffed to see the article, though obviously p*ssed off that I'd not published mine first! LOL.

Out of interest, are you also an alpinist? I've been up on the summit of Mont Blanc twice now, first via a traverse of the Aiguille de Bionnassay on the very day that Mikhail Gorbachev was held prisoner in Russia back in the early 1990s, and then a few years later by doing the fantastic Brenva Spur route from the now demolished Trident Hut at the time it was leaning some 10 degrees from the horizontal. I believe serious rockfall around Col Moore subsequently made the route a lot more difficult, if not impossible to access. Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 03:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Moyes:

Hi Nick, thanks for the reaction and accept my encouragement!
Now I unintendedly beat you at making this page, may I suggest that we dedicate it to the brave gendarmeries and chopper pilots of the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne of Chamonix-Mont Blanc and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains...? Let's work together on these pages; and invite other well informed contributors to join us here. I also read about those urine samples that you mention. I have to admit that there is a lot to mention around the mountain that is peculiar, but also not all equally relevant. Ignorants bringing children to the mountain and Kilian Jornet's livestream on Facebook were imho more important worrisome incidents than e.g. the aborted ideas of a tv-show or some cult to have a spiritual gathering therre, to mention just two.
About yours truly: I roamed there several seasons at younger age, in the '80s - and had my share of safe return celebrations with Panaches in NashBar and unforgettable adventures at higher elevations as well, that I obviously survived (also to enjoy the absence here on the English Wikipedia of the dominant mediocres that unfortunately are rampant on the Wikipedia in my mother language...), including the honour to assist the gendarmerie in the recovery of the lifeless body of a poor chap who I saw falling down a few hundred meters in that properly named Couloir of Death (later heard he lost his balance when he hooked a crampon in his trousers - I fully understand why a Norwegian brand calling itself Amundsen Sports still makes breeches...) and second degree frostbite on all my fingers during a winter climb on the Tacul in 1983 or '84 to which I blame my terrible handwriting (for those who want to know: I do not long for new experiences for comparison, but the hospital in Chamonix-Mont Blanc is probably the best in the world that you can find for the treatment of frostbite, if you happen to be in the neighbourhood...).
I hope that you agree that there also moral issues around here: I imagine responsible contributions here might prevent dramatic shortenings of lives by offering others useful information before they go astray in the beautiful but also gruesome nature: in many things adults have to decide theirselves how reckless they want to be or how they want to abuse their freedom or risk their lives, but hey also lives of others can get involved (caillou!)! I hope that you agree that decisions should at least be properly informed.
That 15 year long inexorable campaign of the esteemed Mayor of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains has my sympathy. However, I can also follow his critics who object against the regulations and refer to principal aspects and facets, but Monsieur Jean-Marie Peillex certainly enriched our vocabulary with that memorable term "pseudo-liberties"; my pov is that human lives should not be sacrificed or given up because of some theoretical or academical debate about freedom that itself takes place in a comfortable, warm and safe environment. Anyway, I will enjoy reading your draft there as well. 09:37, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
Its great to meet another (ageing) mountaineer here! I do have respect for those involved in mountain rescue, especially the unpaid volunteers; an experienced alpinist friend of mine spent some time in Cham hospital after she and her husband were trapped for some days after falling into a crevasse on a descent of the Aiguille Grises route. Although I was out climbing in the Swiss Alps this year, I, too, now realise I'm not as strong or even as motivated as I once was to climb the harder summits. Having done about 70% of the main 4000m sunmits, I shall never reach my goal of climbing them all. So it's good to relive some of those times by researching and adding content to Alps-related pages. However, we must remember this is a factual encyclopaedia, and cannot be used to promote our own views on a subject unless they have been written about by independent sources.
You might like to look at Mont Blanc massif which I turned from a simple list to a WP:GA, and had addressed all but one issue (on topic ordering) in my WP:FA nomination when it was pulled for time reasons. I'd like to put it forward again next year after I've got more free time to look at it once more. Perhaps you'd like to help with that? I've not looked at the page on Mont Blanc for a while, but it was in dire need of improvement, and certainly gets more traffic than 'my' massif article. I think the way forward with that one is to agree a proposed structure of headings and subheadings, and then work to move existing content around before adding new sourced material.
The mayor is StGlB is an interesting person. To some extent, he appears to have enhanced the tourism potential (and income) of the commune, but now moans when incompetent people are inevitably attracted to the area. I understand the talk on restrictions on the Gouter Route, though this would sound less hollow were the efforts of Espace Mont Blanc to gain registration for the massif as a World Heritage Site to be properly supported by the three countries, who probably don't want it to restrict their further development plans. All this is my POV, and not appropriate for an encyclopaedia article, of course.
Do consider adding your name to the small list of contributors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mountains of the Alps, and perhaps drop a note on the talk page to alert people of some of your recent alps-related pages? We like the opportunity of seeing new content. Its not a hugely active group per se, but some of its members have made great contributions. So please join us. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 12:20, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Moyes: Thanks for your kind reply with suggestions. Now there is no red link anymore to Jean-Marc Peillex anymore! I will come back to the rest later.GentleDjinn (talk) 12:41, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well done, but I'd quite like to 'draftify' it if that's OK with you until you/we can add some content about the person, not the campaigns/issues he's been involved in? Had I encountered this in my normal WP:NPP role, I'd be concerned that it doesn't yet prove notability (an issue that stopped me making an article on him - and not speaking much French to understand sources). The article needs to be about him, not expand on other issues per WP:COATRACK), and at a quick skim I can only see this reference that actually talks a little about him. I'm not sure whether being mayor de facto gives him notability - I suspect not. (In WP:NPOLITICIAN we might be able to claim he meets "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage" - but the coverage needs to be about him, more than the issues he campaigns on. I can't believe there aren't some good biographies in some French newspapers about him, rather than deaths on MB. I think we still need a few more - but a relly great effort - and you clearly work a lot faster than I do!!! Let me know what you think. Nick Moyes (talk) 16:37, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Moyes:

Well as far as I see any relevance of the esteemed M. Peillex for the English Wikipedia it is exactly related to his long campaign for the regulation that now seems to take form. Of course there are lots of issues in his municipality, but they would not be relevant here, imho (not even details about his political inclinations, I might say, but please correct me if necessary). Let's see if a page about him emerges on the French Wikipedia and what other (sourced) information will appear there, that might be considered to be added here as well. 17:28, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Btw, you mentioned were on the Mont Blanc via a traverse of the Aiguille de Bionnassay: the Miage route? Isn't that also worth an own page, just like the Grand Mulets and Gonella routes? GentleDjinn (talk) 17:07, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the red link to Jean-Marc Peillex in your new article on Goûter Route on Mont Blanc (which I have reviewed and renamed to help it being found). I've been mulling over creating a page on this outspoken mayor of Saint Gervais les Bains, but was aware sources specifically about him in English were rather sparse, and that fr.wiki doesn't even have a page on him yet. Any thoughts? Nick Moyes (talk) 04:02, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rocher de la Tournette moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Rocher de la Tournette, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DannyS712 (talk) 21:27, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyS712:

Unfortunately you seem not to be aware (yet) that this is exactly the case with all topographical topics. Frankly, I don't see enough sources etc. about the existence of the whole planet Earth either. May I suggest that you ask questions before shooting and kindly request you to put it back? Happy new year.
(Rules should be practiced with reason. Unfortunately, presumptive mediocrity and such ridiculous hyperskepsis also dwells on the English Wikipedia. Recommended reading: How to do things with rules by William Twining and David Miers). Dear Danny, since 2012 there exists the page Top of the Mont Blanc, also on the Dutch and Catalan Wikipedia, without any source that mountains do have tops at all... : it is about a cherished piece of stone that allegedly comes from the summit of Mont Blanc, although that can not be the case. Here is your quote: "certum est quia impossibile est" - Tertullianus. (but who cares?)
That geological relic comes from the highest rock peak near the summit of Mont Blanc, and about which the French Wikipedia already has a page for years, since 2007 and the Italian since 2010, and the Spanish since 2011, of which you do not seem to be aware either. Feel free, show the guts to nag them there. Best wishes, GentleDjinn (talk) 09:15, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The "Top of the Mont Blanc" at display in Teylers Museum
Maybe I need to clarify for you that the rock peak I am talking (writing) about, where that piece of stone comes from, is the Rocher de la Tournette or else the claimed origin of that piece of stone should be deemed a hoax. Unfortunately, although the Rocher de la Tournette can be found on many maps that are detailed enough, I do not know any sources as evidence that hoaxes are real things of this world either. After checking those pages in the Catalan, Italian, Spanish and Dutch Wikipedia about that stone and the Rocher de la Tournette , we can start the new year wasting our energy with this inspiring page Appeal to the stone .
The Rocher de la Tourette is also mentioned on several other pages in the English Wikipedia (I can count 6 occurences), as well as in the French and Italian Wikipedias where nobody at all sees this peak as a stumbling block whatsoever (same with most mountains or other topographical topics). Please see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Alpine_four-thousanders#Enlarged_list , and for non of the peaks mentioned there I notice any sources at all about their existence, while to the contrary I see lots of sources mentioned on Wikipedia for the "existence" of fictitious places: e.g. Places in Harry Potter, Category:Lists of fictional locations Category:Fictional universes.

GentleDjinn (talk) 11:08, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Further to our conversation and some suggestionsd on my talk page, I've spent the evening working on this and related (Gouter) articles, and have now added a set of references and an infobox and the main spur route into it. I not there is also an extreme Gaston Rebuffat route listed in my Alpine Club climbing guide, but I don't think that's hugely necessary. I also noted my guide gave the route a PD rating , but modern online sources give it AD - and I can well eblieve it. PD seems far too easy for that extremely remote and potentially avalanche-prone area. Anyway, the page has been moved back into mainspace and I've NPP-ed it, too. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 03:14, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I will have a look at your talk page. About its morphological interest, I suspect (dare to predict), that the Rocher(s) de la Tournette and its surroundings might be a kind of small litmus test as empirical falsification / confirmation for the climate change. Hermanos en el Camino moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hermanos en el Camino, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption.
