Blanking of Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre

[edit]

I have undone your blanking of Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre as pages in article name space should not be blanked. I understand you intend to move State Sports Centre over the redirect, in which case use requested moves or place {{db-move|PAGE TO BE MOVED|REASON FOR MOVE}} at the top of the page. --Danski454 (talk) 10:15, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Australian football at the 1956 Summer Olympics you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Australian football at the 1956 Summer Olympics for issues which need to be addressed. The article Australian football at the 1956 Summer Olympics you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Australian football at the 1956 Summer Olympics for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Adding SmartBus logo.svg to a wikipedia page

[edit]

I have tried adding the following picture: File:SmartBus logo.svg to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Route_902,_Victorian_Bus_Route&direction=next&oldid=1111904843 however it got removed due to copyright, since you uploaded it and own the copyright on wikipedia is it possible for you to give me the uploading rights or upload it on the Infobox bus line, "logo" on the wikipedia page i sent NotOrrio (talk) 02:52, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@NotOrrio: As explained in my reply to your similar request in my talk page, this user does not own the copyright to the Smartbus logo, it belongs to PTV. Just like the Kinetic logo, the Smartbus logo is still subject to “minimal use” and could only be used in the Smartbus article. Marcnut1996 (talk) 05:36, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Size of team color graphics on Central Murray Football Netball League and Bellarine Football Netball League

[edit]

Hey, could you please keep the size of the team color graphics at 40 px? They're difficult to make out below that. Thanks Mrchikkin (talk) 12:38, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, the flag icons seen everywhere on WP are only 14px high and no one has ever complained about detail there. I thought 20px was pretty reasonable in the scheme of things.
40px blows out the table height (and each cell's height) to twice as big as it would be with either a 20px image or even no image at all.
I appreciate your hard work in tracking all the designs down and then creating them, but the icons are only there to be complimentary and not so crucial to the article that the table becomes twice as long. The 'free images' section in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Icons doesn't look too favourably upon icons. Thanks. Gibbsyspin 09:42, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Albany Regional Airport logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 06:08, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cooma-Snowy Mountains Airport

[edit]

Hello there. I am requesting you undo your edit that moved this page to a new namespace, and seek consensus via a talk page and appropriate wikiprojects before making this change. The justification you provided was WP:COMMONNAME. This policy states: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources)."

My argument is that "Snowy Mountains Airport" is used in promotional material by the airport and operators. However, the vast majority of sources, including current and historic, use either Cooma Airport, or Cooma - Snowy Mountains Airport. Furthermore, the Qantas booking system does not allow you to book flights to "Snowy Mountains", only to Cooma. As a pilot myself, all radio calls made at this airport, all flight planning documents and associated navigation aids are referred to as "Cooma".

I am not against this move if there is WP:EDITCON, I could not find any evidence to suggest this was sought before the change on either the current or previous page's talk page, nor is there sufficient explanation of why the change occurred. I do believe your edit was made in good faith, but I am also aware that the airport (which existed well before the current ownership) was recently rebranded for marketing purposes and a change without consensus might appear problematic in the context of WP:PROMO.Dfadden (talk) 21:06, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the message. Firstly re: Qantas – their website promotes Flights to Snowy Mountains (Cooma), so while the booking system may still have the old name, all front-end material is certainly Snowy Mountains.
Secondly, the name change isn't recent at all. Snowy Mountains Airport Corporation has been around since 2005, and the name and logo of Snowy Mountains Airport has been used since 2006. Almost 20 years of continuous use has positioned Snowy Mountains Airport as the primary name of this airport. Google hits for the exact phrases show "Snowy Mountains Airport" at 49,400 results, "Cooma Airport" at 31,900 results, and "Cooma-Snowy Mountains Airport" at 13,600 results. "Snowy Mountains Airport" is therefore used, on average, 35% more often than any other phrase.
I understand where you are coming from as a pilot – I assume there is probably an internal preference in the industry to prefer township names (Maroochydore v Sunshine Coast; Coolangatta v Gold Coast, etc.) given their accuracy and history. I also appreciate this was a WP:BOLD move by me, but I try and keep on top of a lot of airport logo changes that seem to fall by the wayside on here and sometimes name changes can come with that.
If you want to pursue a reversal further I encourage you to suggest an RM, but I think neutral sources would likely favour the current name given the evidence above.
Cheers. Gibbsyspin 22:32, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply! I absolutely appreciate the work you do to keep these articles updated and I have no problem with the logo and current name being in the infobox, but I may suggest an RM in this particular case.
Google hits are one measure of common usage, but it does have limitations - I recreated your search and got the same 49,400 results, however 3 of the top 10 search results included the word "Cooma" immediately ahead of the exact phrase "Snowy Mountains Airport".
The current name came about to disambiguate the public airport from Cooma–Polo Flat Airport, which was historically the base for the Snowy Mountains Authority's aviation ops to a network of airstrips throughout the Snowy Mountains. Admittedly, this was over 20 years ago now, but at that time, Polo Flat was colloquially known as the Snowy Mountains Scheme Airport (or just "Snowy Airport") while the public airfield was just "Cooma" airport. Without checking every single match, I suspect a number of the Snowy Mountains Airport results returned by Google (with substance - not just web-jet type booking sites) may actually be talking about Polo Flat.
Because of this and the arguments I made in my first post, I feel like we should make our respective cases and let the community decide. Dfadden (talk) 23:52, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've raised a RM here if you'd like to contribute. Cheers! Dfadden (talk) 03:36, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks mate, happy to put it to the people! No hard feelings either – I've just stated my case on the RM page. Cheers. Gibbsyspin 05:56, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
