The surviving public and private inscriptions found in Macedonia indicate that there was no other written language in ancient Macedonia but Ancient Greek, and the recent epigraphic discoveries in the Greek region of Macedonia, such as the Pella curse tablet, suggest that ancient Macedonian was a variety of the North Western Ancient Greek dialects.

There is no use of regional characterisations of the ancient Greek language in other cases where it was the main language. The term "ancient Greek" is used to describe the language used in other regions of the ancient Greek-speaking world of the same period like Sparta, Athens, Thebes, Thessaly and so forth.

The use of the term "ancient Macedonian language" as an effort to distinguish it from ancient Greek is thus historically INCORRECT.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Auguste Corteau photo.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Auguste Corteau photo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
