Request for edit summary

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Thanks for contributing this article. It's excellent. —Pengo 10:17, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm currently working on repairing links to disambiguation pages. In the Carlos María Cardinal de la Torre article that you are the main contributor to, it was unclear to me whether the word "evangelical" should link to evangelism or evangelicalism. Can you suggest which would be more appropriate?

Also, there is currently a suggestion that the page should be merged with Carlos Maria Cardinal de la Torre, which appears to be a more recent article about the same person. You may want to comment, and/or be bold and merge the two?

Thanks. Paddles TC 08:19, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tyldesley

[edit]

The unforgiveable thing about your creating Tyldesley, Greater Manchester was the fact that you did it using a copy&paste instead of a move command. I have now reverted the move and merged the edit histories. Given that the vast majority of links to Tyldesley refer to the place, I feel that the town article should be on the main title and the people should be banished to a dab page. I suggest you discuss on a talk page before attempting another move.

As a general point, please start to provide edit summaries. -- RHaworth 19:48, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have recently added information about Mazahua phonology to the article about the Mazahua language. I would like to know where you have your information from. I ask because it is in contradiction to other published material - such as the articles by Hazel Spotts and Doris Bartholomew. PArticularly they agree with the number of phonemes - since they count h and ʔ as separate phonemes and the phonemes that you describe as glottalized and aspirated as consonant clusters. However I know that a few weeks ago a new Authoritative book about Mazahua phonology by Michael Herbert Knapp Ring was published and I wonder if your information comes from that book which I haven't had a chance to see my self? Otherwise I think it would be in order to present Mazahua phonology in a more balanced manner taking into account the different interpretations.·Maunus· ·ƛ· 20:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The list of phonemes comes from Ian Maddieson's book Patterns of Sounds. It is footnoted in the text but when I was writing I was never sure where to put the footnote. luokehao
Since Maddieson has not himself done any work on Mazahua I would be interested in knowing which source he uses for his Mazahua data. could you put a reference to his references here at the talk page, just for my curiosity? ·Maunus· ·ƛ· 15:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Improper close of merger proposal

[edit]

At Talk:De facto, I have queried your close of the merger proposal. You merged the articles although most of the editors responding opposed the proposed merger. I believe that De jure should be restored as a separate article. JamesMLane t c 15:24, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for adding some interesting information to Martin's article. However, we're going to need some references, as there are several things you added which would be considered original research without those. Here's one example:

It has to be said that Martin was the fastest bowler playing county cricket at the time

Without a specific citation, that simply looks like your own opinion, which of course would not be acceptable for Wikipedia. If you can find a good quote from a reliable source saying that he was the fastest, then of course that's fine. But we really do need the sources. Thanks. Proposed deletion of The Lost Ninja

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article The Lost Ninja, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No evidence suggesting that this book has any notability of any kind

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Aluminum phosphate

[edit]

Would you 'please' provide references in regards to your information stating that destructive decomposition of aluminum phosphate yields phosphorus pentoxide and aluminum oxide? I can't find a reference for this information and if it has one then it is useful...however otherwise I can't prove it and all information on wiki articles 'need' references so it will end up getting erased.

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Luokehao! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:35, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fact checking on Bristol 405 Overdrive

[edit]

In regards to the Bristol_405 article that you initiated in 2006, the Bristol Owners Club Forum has begun a debate as to whether the 405 early models did or did not come with overdrive. The only reference in support of early 405's coming without OD is the Wikipedia article, and it appears the "fact" was written by you in the original posting. It may be that 405's were shipped to Australia by the factory without OD, in which case your fact would be correct, or it may be that 405's now lacking ODs had them stripped by subsequent owners to provide parts for more fashionable Bristol powered cars like the Arnolt Bristol or the 404.

May I ask where you collected the information so we can get the record set straight?

PS: Your documentation is greatly appreciated. Keep up the hard work!

BristolRegistrar (talk) 21:10, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Sixties is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Sixties until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Dougweller (talk) 15:34, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Climate table edits

Be careful with edits such as this. Partial reversion of change(s) at Yukon

[edit]

Hi Luokehao; I reverted part of your changes, (just the addition, not your deletion) of information here.  Your deletion is of unsourced material so I fully agree.  Unfortunately, the information added is equally unsourced.  What I reverted to is also unsourced but seems short & general enough to qualify as common knowledge.
Additionally, I think it was a little too detailed for the lede section, but (if WP:V) would be a good addition to the article.  If you've got any WP:RS reference available (I find the Citation generator to be helpful), it might make sense to add it as a new "=== Climate ===" subsection under the "== Geography and ecology ==" section (IMO).  Just wanted to explain why.  Cheers & have fun! — Who R you? Talk 21:33, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Chronic inflation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Israeli sheqel (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Weatherboxes on Funchal and Madeira articles

Luokehao, I think you should reformulate your weatherboxes. By including the Reflist citation, you have forced the citations to completely appear underneath your weatherbox, rather then at the end along with all other references and citations. Consequently, I am reverting the Funchal and Madeira edits you made, until they have been resolved. Sorry. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 01:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Zard-kuh Glaciers

Hi. I appreciate your contributions on Iranian related articles such as Zard-Kuh. However, about this edit, I read the reference mentioned by you and didn't find any sentence supporting the claim that the glaciers of Zard-Kuh are the only glaciers in the subtropics outside the Himalayas and Andes. Bird nest

[edit]

Hi Luokehao: I just wanted to let you know that I've reverted your edit to bird nest, because the reference you provided says that gull and tern chicks do leave their scrape nests! They do stay close however, so perhaps we can figure out some way to say they leave the nest but don't go far. Most raptors don't build a scrape nest, but those that do definitely do stay in the nest for a while, so you could change it from "most" to "all but scrape-nesting raptors" or something like that. Please feel free to make those changes!  :) MeegsC | Talk 03:01, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hailar District et al.

[edit]

You are probably aware that there generally are two methods to calculate the 24-hour average temperature: 1) Taking the arithmetic mean of the max and min (as done in the US and Canada). 2) Calculating an "integrated" sum, i.e. the average of each hourly temperature (as in East Asia). Even under the second method, Hailar, Inner Mongolia still falls under Dwb. That it was temporarily at subarctic is the doing of an IP that even claimed Harbin, which averages 23.0 °C in July, is subarctic! GotR Talk 08:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi !! I saw that you changed the weather chart on Ferndale, California. The new chart you added was indeed much prettier with lovely pastel colors, however all the data was wrong, so I have reverted the page to what it was previously because the accuracy of the weather data is more important than the colors of the chart! California climate

[edit]

Greetings! I see from your user page that you're from Melbourne! A lovely place but far too far away from Northwestern California to understand the 1,000 microclimates of the area. While a page such as Humboldt County, California might benefit from sweeping generalizations about climate, each individual town in the region has particular climate features which are wiped out by the addition of climatology language which may be 100% textbook correct on a macroscale, but not correct on the microscale. As many regional editors have contributed to the local pages over the years, a good description of the regional microclimates have found their way into the project. I reverted your edits because - for one example - Ukiah cannot be compared to Eureka for weather. The two towns are 2 hours and 44 minutes away from each other by car at about 50 mph - about the same time to drive from Canberra to Sydney which of course are incomparable, too. Eureka and Ukiah are separated by several mountain ranges (which are about 80% as tall as Mount Kosciuszko) and their climate is in no way similar or comparable due not only to the great distance between them, but the variability of climate on the different sides of the mountains. Likewise other edits you made to towns in the region I reverted. I was unable to verify all the temperature information that you changed. Precipitation and snowfall information was in some towns completely wiped out or the values changed to the point where they just didn't contain the sense that they had contained before. I agree that some of your tables were prettier, but with the wrong temperatures, snowfall or precipitation, they had to go. Changing half of the converts from cm to mm also left some parts of the pages with half centimeters and half millimeters - both in the climate section! With so much confusion and so many data points massively changed the only safe course was to revert. Please take some time to be sure temperature, precipitation and snowfall data is correct before changing more pages up here. And please don't make sweeping generalizations about local microclimates based on some textbook definition from thousands of miles away. If you need help understanding the area before making more changes, please don't hesitate to ask. I'd be delighted to have "better" climate information for the towns, but it really has to be accurate. Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:43, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Colour of weatherboxes

[edit]

I have noticed that you are working hard with editing and fixing the climate data in many articles and I want to thank you for doing this. The climate section is one of the most under edited parts. However, there is a discussion going on about the colours used for the weatherboxes because a consensus is needed in order to determine which colours should be used in the weatherboxes. This is considering the fact that a large number of weatherboxes have non-standard colours (eg. green or pastel) and more outside opinion is required to reach a consensus and that some of these edits may be controverisal to other editors. Any comments would be welcome.

Hi. Ages back, you contributed some quite substantial expansions to articles on Lancashire cricketers such as Harry Dean and Willis Cuttell. Climate Change and the WAFL

[edit]

Hi there. First of all, thank you very much for doing the hard yards in creating the season articles, I can see how much work you've put in there. However, the repeated linking of weather and scoring is synthesis or original research. The increase in the mid 70s may be due to training methods, the centre square or just a change in coaching tactics. To link it to climate change is tenuous. If you can find a reliable reference that makes that link (not just two separate refs that refer to dry years and another that mentions high scoring), we can't include it. Thanks again for all your contributions. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 13:31, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You added this phrase to this article : " though W.G. Grace with his medical experience later wondered why many more players were not killed outright.[3]" referring WG Grace's memorial biography.

The actual extract is : "(George) Freeman thus spoke of it to me in 1894: 'Tom Emmett and I have often said it was a marvel the doctor was not either maimed or unnerved for the rest of his days or killed outright. "

It was spoken by Freeman about a Grace innings, not by Grace himself. Tintin 13:47, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Curly quotes

[edit]

Hi, just a minor note/question: on your | recent edit to the Duluth, Minnesota page you corrected a bit about the climate (and thanks for that) but also changed the quotes around "The Air-Conditioned City" from straight to curly. The Manual of Style prefers straight quotes for a couple reasons, so if that was a manual change this is just an FYI. But if it was something automatic done by whatever browser/tool/interface you used to make that edit, I'm curious which editing program that was? I ask because it's something I've noticed before. Like to NBA season articles

[edit]

Thanks for updating links to the specific team season articles. It makes sense in an article about a particular season like your edit to 2011–12 Los Angeles Lakers season. However, is there a particular rationale for linking the, e.g. [[2011–12 Oklahoma City Thunder season|the Oklahoma City Thunder]] It's not a common practice in NBA articles currently. Linking “the”

[edit]

It is, to my mind, logical to link “the” if possible, although I know it is not normal practice. On the alternative web search applications Dictionary, words when clicked online to ordinary dictionary files, and this was my incentive for doing it originally as it could be annoying if one clicks in the wrong place. Moreover, since “the” is part of the noun phrase (“the Denver Nuggets”) it is reasonable to link it in my view, although I am well aware it is not possible to do it for ordinary linking purposes because the article has to be omitted in actual article titles.—luokehao, 00:28, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Consider WP:NOPIPE, which advises: "Avoid making links longer than necessary." Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 11:47, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:DASH

[edit]

Please read MOS:DASH, because you are confusing en dash () with em dash () in your edits. You use em dash (—) where it is not appropriate to use it. For example, in this edit, en dash (–) should be used for year ranges (1978–79) and results (4–3, 2–1, 85–80, etc.), while em dash (—) should only be used in sentences. – Sabbatino (talk) 15:16, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NRL season articles

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your improvements to the above. I'm sure we both agree that the 2014 NRL season article's first sentence quite rightly reads as "...was the 107th season of..." rather than as "...was the one-hundred-and-seventh season of...". And I'm sure we both agree that the 1909 NSWRFL season's first sentence should read as "...was the second season of..." rather than as "...was the 2nd season of...". But where it appears we might disagree, is the point at which we change from words to numerals. I think we should switch to numerals once it moves onto two words, i.e. from the 21st ("twenty-first") onward. Thoughts?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 11:57, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I generally switch to numbers only with very large, exact numbers. With two digits I feel spelling out is much more elegant and aesthetic than numbers, and even with three digits I will frequently spell out, especially if such numbers are only a minority of the relevant class (as with NRL seasons or suras of the Qur’an) or there are two or one words (e.g. “one hundredth” is clearly preferable to “100th”). luokehao 23:47, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited United States presidential election in Washington (state), 1976, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Margaret Wright (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Presidential election county results

[edit]

Hi! I've created hundreds of presidential election pages in the past few months, and I've noticed your fantastic work on several of those articles. I was just wondering if you could show me where you get the sources for the county result tables? I was thinking if I knew where you got the information, I would be able to possibly start adding some tables myself. Again, thank you massively for your work, it really improves the page and Wikipedia in general. Thanks, PCN02WPS 03:41, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

County results from 1880 to 1908

[edit]

I'm wondering and curious where you found county election results from 1880 to 1908 for states like North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. I've been adding those results to the county results for each county and someone keeps removing them and doesn't believe that it was you who found the results. TylerKutschbach (talk)

Updating the county tables

Hello! I appreciated you updating the county tables for the results on the page for 1996 election in Iowa that I made the county table. I’m curious if you’re able to do it to the rest of those county table results like a few remaining ones for the 90s elections as well as the ones from 2000-2020. Perry County, Tennessee Election Information - Sources Needed

[edit]

Good day! Waaaaaay back in 2017 you edited the page for Perry County, Tennessee to add some well detailed information on historical elections and its shift to the Republican Party in the early 21st century. Unfortunately, these edits were largely unsourced. I'm trying to get this article to GA standards and this stands out as the one major section of the article lacking in reliable sourcing. Would you be able to go in and provide the sources you used for the information you entered, in formatted in-line citations? Thank you! nf utvol (talk) 22:56, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you stop

[edit]

I thing I have seen in the past several months is that you always mess up Infoboxes for Elections like Virginia for Example, you have the color for Wallace as being purple while the map shows orange, along with other changes (Like Eisenhower being an “Independent” in SC. And why do you do this? This only confuses people an why is one thing is another on the SAME PAGE. So I ask, can you just not? Qutlooker (talk) 03:31, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Qutlook,
the reason I do this is because I want to show each individual state’s party label for each candidate, even if they were:
  1. allied as an independent to a labelled party at the national level or
  2. allied as one party to another at the national level
For instance, if you read America at the Polls, you will see regarding the 1952 election in South Carolina that:

(page 399)

Also, on Dave Leip’s U.S. Election Atlas, Eisenhower is listed as “Independent” in Mississippi, though not South Carolina.
Re the 1968 Virginia presidential election, the colour for the American Independent Party on Wikipedia is purple, so I feel I was doing the right thing by changing the colour on the election site to the actual American Independent Party colour, not necessarily the colour used on the maps, which are more limited in their range if I am not mistaken. Luokehao (talk) 07:54, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, bottom line is that if you change the Color of a Party, then Change the Map too. Which aren’t limited in their range. So that it doesn’t confuse people and cause Conflicting info to spread. Qutlooker (talk) 14:13, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you update formatting on other presidential election pages

[edit]

There are other county results tables on some state presidential pages that still need to be updated like the ones in Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island and Massachusetts as well as the 1992 and 1996 pages for both West Virginia and Montana. Can you update more of those, you’ve been editing almost some of the same pages over and over again for the past few days. 174.207.38.178 (talk) 00:14, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 174.207.38.178,
I intend to update the presidential elections as I have done for states like Virginia, Kansas, Alabama and some others.
It is my view that any state with fifty or more counties should have its county table made collapsible as it makes it easier to read. The threshold actually could be quite a bit lower than that. The outside equals signs in the section do however need to be removed to make sure that the benefits of a collapsible table are seen equally in mobile and in desktop views — a problem I am aware of from reading in both formats on my Mac and my mobile regularly. Notice

The article Name A Game has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Completely unsourced article on an apparently now-defunct company. Searching for sources turned up nearly nothing - the best I found were mentions on message boards or Reddit posts. Without significant coverage in reliable sources, this fails the WP:GNG and WP:NCORP.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
