You moved this article back to draft space. It has already been in draft space and was accepted by MapleSoy. If you don't think this should be in mainspace, you should propose it be deleted. Can you please revert your move to draft space? ~Kvng (talk) 17:24, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2020 November newsletter

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Moving to draft

Hi you once described for me the process of dealing with deleting a draft so that a new page can be moved out of mainspace into the draft space for the same name. I didn’t really understand it at the time. Today I wanted to reread your explanation but can’t find it anywhere. Is there a set of instructions somewhere I can read (I can’t find it on the NPP Resources page) or would you mind explaining it again for me? Many thanks Mccapra (talk) 19:38, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mccapra, in dealing with situations like this, you'll need to move the mainspace page to the userspace of the creator of the page. Eg. If the username of the creator is Jakanna and page title is The fundamentals, during moving of the page, you'll need to select New title: as User and name page title as Jakanna/The fundamentals, add your reason and uncheck Leave a redirect behind. Sorry for the late reply, I've been away for a while. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 15:26, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No worries at all and thanks for your help. I realised you weren’t around for a while and I hope everything is ok. All the best. Mccapra (talk) 16:04, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nigeria medical cases chart

Hi and thanks a lot for maintaining the Nigeria medical cases chart. May I ask if you could fill in the data for at least November 11 and November 12? For some reason, I was not able to access enwiki for two straight days, and I could not find where the data for previous dates could be found once the data displayed on the dashboard is updated. First Nagorno-Karabakh War page move

Hi Nnadigoodluck, regarding your close on at Talk:First Nagorno-Karabakh War, would you mind expanding on the reasoning behind your determination of the consensus? Best, CMD (talk) 16:19, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chipmunkdavis, The proposer noted that the title should be disambiguated per WP:QUALIFIER, as many reliable sources are now using the proposed name. The proposed name were backed with many support votes who believed that the proposer has a well reasoned and cut-and-dry nomination grounded in policy, thereby forming a consensus to move, since the old title is no longer the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Also, there were opposed votes, but they were challenged and countered constructively with policy based statements and I saw no other reason not to move it to the proposed title. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 17:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thank you, great response. WP:QUALIFIER is what I needed. Appreciated, CMD (talk) 02:40, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Were you aware of the related recent discussion at 2020 Nagorno Karabakh war before making the close? signed, Rosguill talk 04:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill not at all, I wasn't aware that the discussion ever happened. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 06:43, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be willing to review said discussion and reconsider whether your close was appropriate? I think that the current situation is defensible, but given the additional information you may find yourself of a different opinion than when you were performing the close. If nothing else, I would argue that "war" should not be capitalized until we see wider use as a proper noun. signed, Rosguill talk 19:49, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill, I would have loved to rename from "War" to "war" per consistency with 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, but that was never discussed or raised in this new move request, they only deliberated on whether they should add "First" in front of Nagorno-Karabakh War, per WP:ATDAB. IMHO, I think this should be discussed in a fresh discussion at a later date. Best, —Nnadigoodluck
I agree that unilaterally making that change now would not be appropriate; I think that if the additional information makes you think that the close was improper, then the courses of action would be to either reclose with a new rationale that you think is more appropriate or to revert the close and leave it for another editor. If you think that the close can stand, then there's no action needed. signed, Rosguill talk 20:19, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Nnadigoodluck/archives,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Rank Username Num reviews Log
1 DannyS712 bot III (talk) 67,552 Patrol Page Curation
2 Rosguill (talk) 63,821 Patrol Page Curation

9 Hughesdarren (talk) 4,520 Patrol Page Curation
10 Utopes (talk) 3,958 Patrol Page Curation
Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Wimbledon

I'm not sure you should have moved the championships article to Wimbledon, firstly I'm not sure that there was a consensus for it to be the primary topic for "Wimbledon" since as noted the district might qualify, secondly the championships article wasn't notified of the move and while such moves may be fine if it involves moveing a DAB (or other page) to the unqualified name that wasn't notified even though the move benefited the championships article in a way some may object to the name change even if they agree its the primary topic see Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions#Moves of other pages. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:33, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crouch, Swale, you're right, the notification only happened when the move has already been performed. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 21:39, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also oppose this move to Wimbledon. It's possible it could be the correct move, but no one in the tennis project would have seen it to comment since it was just added to the talk page today. Please reopen or at least stop the move of The Championships, Wimbledon to Wimbledon. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:26, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fyunck(click), I'm going to revert the move, notify the appropriate channels and re-open the RM. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 07:29, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for reverting the championships move but you should probably just close the current request at Talk:Wimbledon, London#Requested move 1 January 2021 and if needed a new request can be filed at Talk:Wimbledon if a primary topic redirect is desired or Talk:The Championships, Wimbledon if its desired to move the championships to the base name. The current request still has the proposal to move the suburb to the base name (even though you've now notified the championships) which I weakly supported but consensus was against that. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:12, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Crouch, Swale, at this time, I should probably leave the closure to another uninvolved editor. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 17:20, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your Honest Opinion

Hi, Nnadigoodluck. Trust you are doing great today. I'd like to request a favor from you.

I recently created a draft at Draft:Dremo, but a higher authority user accuses me of creating a Sock Puppet account and declines all of my works. They did this twice.

Honestly, I feel they are being biased. Can you have a look at the draft and let me know whether or not, it provides notability of the subject?

I looked at several other articles such as Mayorkun, Rema, and Chinko Ekun, and made sure I followed similar patterns.

I strongly believe if articles such as Tems, Taaooma, MC Lively and more are in the article mainspace, then Draft:Dremo also stands a chance.

I recently joined Wikipedia, but learning and contributing in a community where they are higher authority users that throw accusations and also ignore the questions and concerns of new editors is just very demoralizing.

I appreciate your time and I hope you look into this. Thanks in advance. Mondayudowong (talk) 13:03, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2021 March newsletter

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Scotland ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
  • Rwanda Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
  • Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
  • Botswana The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
  • Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
  • Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
  • United States Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
  • England Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! I'd like to find out why you nominated the article titled dorathy Bachor for speedy deletion. Justice Faith (talk) 16:09, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Justice Faith, I didn't nominate the article for speedy deletion, rather for AfD. You could kindly read my nomination reason at the nomination page. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 16:18, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had something else to request of to kindly. I've been working on a draft for Nengi of Big Brother Naija. I submitted it in October last year and it was reviewed in February. I was told to avoid peacock terms and also use reliable sources. I've since edited the page, I'm yet to resubmit it, just looking for some more citations. My request is that you visit the article, look at the citations used and the tone, let me know whether or not when resubmitting it would be accepted and lastly kindly let me know if you could review it on resubmission because I've noticed you're a nigerian member and so you're probably well acquainted with Nigerian personalities. In comparison to lost wiki editors. I hope you consider this. Justice Faith (talk) 16:31, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Justice Faith, I'm sorry, but Nengi of Big Brother Naija season 5 is not notable according to Wikipedia standards, just like Dorathy Bachor. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 16:38, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
