Hello, how does a page go from Draft to Published? --Pollin08 (talk) 18:19, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Pollin08. The process goes something like this. You create the draft, some experienced editor looks at the draft and decides whether or not it should be published to the article space. If they decide it shouldn't, then they usually explain why. You then take these concerns into account, improve the draft and resubmit it for publication. These phases are now repeated until the draft is accepted. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 20:37, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for your help. I have resubmitted a draft article that was rejected a few weeks ago because of insufficient citation. I'm confident it's now fine, and it's certainly of sufficient general interest. Would it be possible for you to take a look to check, or is this beyond your remit as a mentor? (In which case of course I understand.) The draft article is 'Merope Mills'. Thanks again. --MPRabbity (talk) 16:38, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi MPRabbity. I see that Chris Troutman has declined the submission so it's probably a good idea that you resolve the issue with him. For the record, I think an article on Merope Mills might be less viable than an article about Martha's Rule. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 20:45, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

[edit]HI I want to put my bio up on wikkipedia. I have many firsts for a woman in military aviation history. I am a published Military Aviation Historian and Military Aviation Artist with the USAF art program. I own my company Phoenix Aviation Research that is 40 years old this year. Can I just publish the bio that was used my company's website It is extensive. It also lists the books that I have written and were published, some of which are used in Wikkipedia as reference by other authors in their articles. --Habujean925 (talk) 21:55, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Habujean925 and welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, writing about yourself on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged. As for the bio on your company's website, there are two potential problems. One is that the text could be copyrighted, in which case it can't be copied as is. Second, even if the copyright issue is resolved, that source would not be considered as a reliable source because its author is not independent of the subject. If you believe that you meet these criteria for inclusion, I'm confident that someone will eventually write about you since there's a very active Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. I'm about to release my first solo record via Team Love Records and would like to create a simple Wiki entry for myself. How do I go about setting something very simple up? Thank you! --GeneralWorks (talk) 22:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi GeneralWorks. Unfortunately, writing about yourself on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged, as this places you in a conflict of interest. I wish you the best of luck with your first record and I'm sure that if it's a success, you'll get enough exposure that someone else will write that article about you. Until then, however, I think you should forget about it. Best, Pichpich (talk) 22:27, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Quran translations: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Committing evil sin of templating a regular, so I'll try to be descriptive. I noticed that you reverted a user's edit on Quran translations, which violated NPOV. Then, a (new) message for a level-2 warning wasn't placed on their talk page. This may have also been a conscious decision, and if it was, I've love to hear your feedback. Thanks, Personhumanperson (talk) 16:14, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Personhumanperson. I commented on my edit in the edit summary and it seemed redundant to add a new warning duplicating yours. All is well that ends well apparently. New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Pichpich,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.

Question from My humble contribution (18:53, 3 April 2024)
[edit]Hi Pichpich,
Nice to meet you virtually.
I have noticed that there is an ECHA infocard for ascorbic acid available at https://echa.europa.eu/fr/substance-information/-/substanceinfo/100.000.061 , even though this substance is not classified under REACH.
I think it would be worth adding this link on the ascorbic acid page like there is already for more hazardous substances like benzoic acid (https://echa.europa.eu/substance-information/-/substanceinfo/100.000.562) in the properties section of the chembox, for instance.
What is the process to do that in Wikipedia?
Thanks in advance --My humble contribution (talk) 18:53, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi and welcome to Wikpedia! I have no expertise whatsoever about chemistry but I can tell you that the quickest way to get this done is to post a comment (basically what you just wrote to me) on the page Talk:Vitamin C. Many editors have this page on their watchlist and a good portion of them have the necessary background to discuss with you the relevance of such a change. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 21:36, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Question from Madrie05 on User:Madrie05 (04:19, 5 April 2024)
[edit]hello how do i create a citation? --Madrie05 (talk) 04:19, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Madrie05 and welcome to Wikipedia. To create a citation, you can use the template {{Citation}} or more specific templates in Category:Citation Style 1 templates such as {{cite web}}. You also need to include this citation template in a <ref> ... </ref> pair to get a footnote. Perhaps you can tell me more about the specific citation you want to add and I can show you how it's done with that example. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 17:25, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Follow measure (06:36, 7 April 2024)
[edit]how to add images to wikipedia --Follow measure (talk) 06:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- You can always read Help:Files but here's a quick recap. The first thing to do is to upload your image. Now I won't get into the fine details of image copyrights issues but basically, you should only add images that are free either because their copyright has expired or because their author has released under a free license or because you're the author of the image. In either case, you should be able to upload the image to Commons via its Upload Wizard (see "Upload file" in the column on the left.) Once this is done, your image will have some name "Foo". To include the image on an article, you can now add [[File:Foo|right|thumb|Caption]] (the first two parameters ensure that the image appears on the right and is not too large, the last is the image's caption.) Hope this helps. If you're still having trouble, do let me know. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 15:52, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there, I am working as a 'paid editor' at the PR agency for the mathematician Hassan Ugail. I have tried to add some research to his page but am not allowed because I am being paid. The citations are external sources, published by independent news outlets that have not been paid/received anything from us. Thanks --ARMontpellier (talk) 12:39, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- What you can do is suggest the changes on the talk page: Talk:Hassan Ugail. If they make sense, are written objectively and are well sourced, they will probably be implemented. Best, Pichpich (talk) 19:29, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I'm working on adding images to Wikipedia to illustrate articles, but I'm having trouble finding freely licensed or public domain images for certain topics, like Windows 10 S. Since I don't own Windows, it's challenging to create my own images. Do you have any advice on finding appropriate images that meet Wikipedia's requirements?"
Is this what you had in mind? --Angelinauk (talk) 19:50, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- In the end, you just have to accept that some articles cannot be properly illustrated because Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia and that's not negotiable. In some cases, you can add a logo to an article because (Windows 10 is an example!) it does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection (see Commons:File:Windows_10_Logo.svg). [edit]I wish to add a link to an existing Wikipedia page (Avery County, North Carolina) to historical information about the area, located on Google Maps. I have included the origin of the information and the link to the interactive map journey, but my edit continues to be removed from the page. Any help will be appreciated. --Rockkeeper (talk) 18:52, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- I think the concern is that this map is not considered a reliable source. Then again, external links don't need to be reliable sources, but there is a guideline describing what should and shouldn't be linked to. Instead of edit-warring by repeatedly reinserting the link, you should probably discuss its inclusion on the talk page Talk:Avery County, North Carolina and ask Washuotaku (talk · contribs) and Viewmont Viking (talk · contribs) why they feel that the link is inappropriate. How can I create a page for my business? --N34HD (talk) 14:32, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi N34HD. The short answer is that you should not create a page for your business. This puts you in a conflict of interest. If your business is sufficiently notable, someone will eventually write an article about it. (At which point you'll be able to suggest edits on the article's talk page.) Best, Pichpich (talk) 17:46, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi. I only created this account because the system urged me to do so. I am a university professor with solid academic credentials and a solid record of research publication, and my intention is to never make any controversial edits or to delete anything anyone else has written, only to add obviously relevant missing information when I happen to notice an obvious omission in an article I happen to consult. So far this has consisted only of adding references to biographical or topical articles. For example, the article on the Canadian neuroscientist Donald Hebb was missing a reference to the published volume of his selected essays, and the article on the Feynman-Hellmann theorem in quantum mechanics mentioned its applications in quantum chemistry but was missing a reference to the volume of essays on this topic. I've done this maybe a half dozen times in the past few years, usually for figures or topics in the history of philosophy, logic, mathematics and physics, my primary areas of research expertise. I only recently realized that there are now these 'talk' pages associated with many articles, where users actively debate what should be in the article itself. I hope to avoid being drawn into any such debates, because I am still actively engaged in research work, and want to save my mental energy for that.
But recently I wrote for the first time an actual paragraph of new text in the otherwise very detailed and useful biographical article on the English chemist Humphry Davy (the second paragraph in the section 'Later life: Final Years', beginning 'The preceding paragraph'), adding a reference to an unsavory episode in the rivalry between Davy and Faraday, which the preceding paragraph seemed to whitewash or gloss over. I did this mainly by quoting from Cantor's Faraday bio, but gave my reference to that in the text, rather than try to renumber the long series of footnotes. Does this textual edit meet Wikipedia standards, as you understand them? --Bhm1968 (talk) 00:38, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's a little awkward to say that "the previous paragraph might be BS" and eventually, merging the two paragraphs into one that is more nuanced is best. That being said, the other problem is sourcing. I've added a citation to Cantor's book but also noted that the sentence that starts with "Other sources report the jibe ..." should be backed up by links to such sources. Pichpich (talk) 20:45, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, but I didn't want to just delete someone else's text, especially if this is one person (even if a partisan of Davy) who did the work of putting together that long article, and just yielded to charitable hero-favoring BS in this one shaky paragraph. I felt like it was fair to counter one unsourced anecdote with another one. I read this years ago, in the form, "it used to drive Davy crazy, that people said his greatest discovery was Faraday", but I don't now remember where I read this. I never heard this other, more Davy-favorable version that the author gives here, until reading it here, also unsourced. So it seemed fair to just counter that unsourced reference with my own honest attestation that it has been reported the other way also, even if I too can't say where I read it as told this other way. So the current state of this little corner of the article, as I left it, is that paragraph 2, by some new author, is accusing paragraph 1 of being BS, as you fairly say. And it seemed to me that the reader is better off knowing that there is some disagreement about this, between two different authors, as far as Wikipedia currently knows about this topic of Davy vs Faraday. Bhm1968 (talk) 23:52, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Also: Cantor's Faraday bio that I quoted from is 'Michael Faraday: Sandemanian and Scientist', St. Martin's Press, New York, 1991, ISBN 0-312-06669-4. The note 67 that you added seems to be referring to a different book, 'Faraday Rediscovered', edited by Gooding and James, which includes a contribution from Cantor. Bhm1968 (talk) 00:57, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Here's another question, more obvious and technical: will this and the few other, smaller previous edits that I made before I had an account somehow now retroactively link to this new named account? And if not, can I and should I now go back and as it were sign my new username to this prior text of mine in the Davy article? --Bhm1968 (talk) 01:12, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- You can't, but I don't think it matters much. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 20:31, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi. Please fix the mistaken reference you added as note 67 to the article on Humphry Davy. I tried to do this myself, but I don't know how. Cantor's Faraday bio that I quoted from is 'Michael Faraday: Sandemanian and Scientist', St. Martin's Press, New York, 1991, ISBN 0-312-06669-4. Geoffrey Cantor is the sole author. What you cited is a different, shorter book about Faraday that he co-authored with David Gooding and Frank James in 1996. Thanks. --Bhm1968 (talk) 06:56, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed. Please check that the reference is now correct. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 15:14, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but by normal academic standards that reference is still wrong, because reprint editions often have different pagination, or small changes of text. When you cite page numbers, you are telling the reader that you have that book in front of you, and then you have to tell them which edition you are using, because different editions so often have different pagination. I said in my text that I am using the 1991 first edition. If for some reason you want to instead cite this 1993 reprint as a footnote to my text, you should at least omit my page numbers from your footnote, since neither of us know whether the text I quoted still occurs on those same pages of that reprint. I'm sorry to have to be picky about this, but if Wikipedia wants to imitate the citation practices of academic scholarship, it should also try to conform to them. As I said when introducing myself, sloppy or inadequate bibliography is the main thing that makes me want to occasionally try to fix some glaring error I notice in a Wikipedia article. - Yes! Thank you. I take it the system includes some block that prevents new named accounts from rewriting existing numbered footnotes, even though it allows me to fix simple Bibliography entries not embedded in numbered footnotes, even just as an anonymous IP address the way I had been doing? Bhm1968 (talk) 17:33, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- There are no technical barriers to you as a new account or you as an anonymous editor changing the footnotes. Actually, I very much encourage you to add these footnotes whenever you see a statement that is challenged or likely to be challenged. This is not a completely trivial thing to do, as you can see by reading through Wikipedia:Citing sources. You can use the gadget Wikipedia:ProveIt to help you. It's fairly straightfoward to use and it can be added in your user preferences. Try it out and let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 18:04, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- OK thanks. I tried to edit your footnote 67 just by clicking 'edit source' at the top of the Bibliography page and it came up blank, showing no raw unformatted alphanumeric text to edit, so I thought that must be one of the things that new accounts aren't allowed to do. Bhm1968 (talk) 18:18, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- The thing is, that's not how the references work. If you want a new footnote to support the statement, "Humphry Davy loved cats.", you add the reference (using ProveIt or using <ref> add your source here </ref>) in the source text right after the sentence and the footnote will automatically appear at the bottom of the article or, more precisely, at the place where the source says </references> or {{reflist}} or something of the sort. So if you go back to the paragraph you wrote on the Davy article and edit that paragraph, you will see what I added to get the reference to Cantor's book. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 18:25, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- OK thanks. It didn't occur to me to try to re-edit my own text -- it being already so perfect and all :) Bhm1968 (talk) 18:40, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Yiga Charles (17:33, 3 October 2024)
[edit]Hello, how can I add information on my biography? --Yiga Charles (talk) 17:34, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- If there is an existing biographical about yourself, you should avoid adding or removing information directly since that puts you in a conflict of interest. What you can do in this case, is suggest edits on the talk page of the article. Note that bits of information that could reasonably be challenged should be backed up by reliable sources. If there is currently no article about yourself, you should not create one, again due to the conflict of interest. If you are sufficiently notable by these criteria, then eventually someone will create that biographical article. Pichpich (talk) 19:44, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Spelling change for Ramnathapuram Mundu chilli is incorrect

As please refer [1] - This is the official page for Geographical Indications from Government of India. The product is - Ramnathapuram Mundu Chilli & not Ramanathapuram Mundu Chilli as seen in district name. Please revert for the product name. Thanks in advance

Hi! I was looking at this wikipedia page here recently and noticed that it had been put up for possible deletion.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christa_McAuliffe_Space_Education_Center
It was eventually decided not to but it was agreed the page was overall pretty low quality. I used to go to this place as a kid and have been compiling information on this location and other places in the area like it in hopes of making the page better. I've never edited a Wikipedia page before and was hoping to get some help on how to proceed. --Mordrayus (talk) 18:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well that deletion debate took place over 17 years ago which is an eternity around here. If you read the actual debate, the complaints were that the Center was not notable and that parts of it were copied from a copyrighted source. From what I understand, the copyright issue was settled during or just after the end of the debate. As for the notability question, it's also sorted out since there are plenty of references to reliable sources in the current article. If you want to edit the article, just hit the "Edit" tab. Please remember that content should be verifiable and therefore based on reliable sources rather than your own subjective memories of the place. This means handling sourcing which can be tricky for newcomers. So go ahead and make changes you think make the article better, and ring me up when you get to the stage where you're adding references and finding it difficult. (or, for that matter, ask any questions you may have about editing!) Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 19:01, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from JustSomeoneNo's School account (11:19, 20 December 2024)
[edit]What is the difference between Primary citations and secondary citations --JustSomeoneNo's School account (talk) 11:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- I could try to rephrase it but really, the simplest solution to answering this question is to quote from the relevant Wikipedia policy (Wikipedia:No original research). Quote:
- Primary sources are original materials that are close to an event, and are often accounts written by people who are directly involved. They offer an insider's view of an event, a period of history, a work of art, a political decision, and so on. Primary sources may or may not be independent sources. An account of a traffic incident written by a witness is a primary source of information about the event; similarly, a scientific paper documenting a new experiment conducted by the author is a primary source for the outcome of that experiment. For Wikipedia's purposes, breaking news stories are also considered to be primary sources. Historical documents such as diaries are as well.
- A secondary source provides thought and reflection based on primary sources, generally at least one step removed from an event. It contains analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis of the facts, evidence, concepts, and ideas taken from primary sources. Secondary sources are not necessarily independent sources. They rely on primary sources for their material, making analytic or evaluative claims about them. For example, a review article that analyzes research papers in a field is a secondary source for the research. Whether a source is primary or secondary depends on context. A book by a military historian about the Second World War might be a secondary source about the war, but where it includes details of the author's own war experiences, it would be a primary source about those experiences. A book review too can be an opinion, summary, or scholarly review.
- Best, Pichpich (talk) 21:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
