Ampersands

[edit]

Hi there, re: this and similar, we don't use ampersands && in normal encyclopedic prose. Please use the word "and" instead. Thank you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:17, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Serols. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to Kriti Sanon—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. Serols (talk) 09:06, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Swami Vivekananda. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Serols (talk) 09:12, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, re: these changes, be aware of WP:SURNAME, please. Once we mention a person's full name, we typically then refer to them by their last name. Calling Shroff "Tiger" is a bit too casual. There are some exceptions for patronymic names, but this does not appear to be one of those exceptions. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:56, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

More issues

[edit]

Re: these changes, you've introduced a number of problems:

  1. You created a |directors= parameter instead of using |director=. You can't fabricate new infobox parameters, you have to use the ones that already exist. The content won't appear in the infobox otherwise. See Template:Infobox film instructions. In this case there just coincidentally is an alias parameter for directors.
  2. Please don't arbitrarily reorder cast without providing a legitimate rationale in an edit summary. This is disruptive.
  3. You added people to the |starring= parameter, but didn't format the content properly with line breaks the way the other content is formatted. Inconsistent formatting requires fixing, and having other people clean up after you is disruptive.
  4. Stop using ampersands. Use "and" instead.
  5. It's also unclear what all of that "Seven's murderer 1" "Seven's murderer 2" content is about. How does a person have various murderers, and who came up with the numbering? Use complete sentences to explain things. We write content for people who haven't seen the film. It's further confusing because there doesn't appear to be any character named Seven listed in the article. Did you mean Deven? If so, then you need to double-check your spelling, not require other people to clean up after you. And if what you mean to say is that so-and-so character is the third or fourth person that Deven takes retribution against, you should say that.
  6. Please stop miscapitalising words. Proper nouns, like names of people and names of places should be capitalised. "The Owner Of Dealer company of Deven's car" is not correct. "The owner of the car dealership from where Deven purchases his car" would be closer. Or shorter: "...as Mukund Joshi, the owner of a car dealership" would also be appropriate.

Please keep these issues in mind moving forward. If you continue to add problematic content, you will very quickly wind up with your editing privileges interrupted. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:13, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames

[edit]

Hi there, re: this, in proper English writing, when we denote someone's nickname in prose, we usually insert their nickname into quotes and slide it into their full name, like Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson and Michael "Iron Mike" Tyson. This "aka" stuff is a big problem in Indian entertainment articles, and it certainly isn't representative of quality writing. Please avoid it. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:04, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you keep ignoring WP:SURNAME as you've done here and here, you're going to quickly wind up with your editing privileges interrupted. Other editors are not required to educate you on basic English and basic English writing norms. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:08, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Akshay Kumar, you may be blocked from editing.
You have been warned about WP:SURNAME above, but are still ignoring it, I suggest you also read WP:DATEFORMAT and WP:OVERLINKING - Arjayay (talk) 15:32, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Manisha Koirala. - Arjayay (talk) 15:34, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at Ajay Devgn, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Arjayay (talk) 15:57, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Yug Devgan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability is not inherited, and the subject is not notable except in connection with his relatives (WP:INVALIDBIO).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Modussiccandi (talk) 15:58, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Last warning

[edit]

As Arjayay has indicated above, re: this, consider this your last warning:

  1. Don't add unsourced content, which includes unsourced biographical details, like birthdate and place of birth. This sort of content, unsourced, could violate the subject's privacy. WP:BLPPRIVACY
  2. Stop using people's first names unless their last name is a patronym. See WP:SURNAME.
  3. We don't indicate citizenship details when it is the same as their place of birth. It would also be ridiculous to indicate that someone born in India in 1970 became a citizen of India in 1970.

I strongly urge you to read Template:Infobox person and Template:Infobox film instructions. If you continue to make mistakes that are inconsistent with community guidelines, your privileges will be interrupted. Other editors are not required to clean up after you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:55, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Yug Devgan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. November 2020

[edit]
Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently making disruptive edits. While indefinitely does not mean forever, it does mean for the foreseeable future, until you are willing to start discussing these problematic edits. Despite numerous attempts to educate you, you have remained silent, so I don't have any sense that you are even aware of the issues that have been raised, since you continue to make them. While some aspects of your edits have made the encyclopedia better, the other changes you have made have required others to fix or revert them. Most recently:
  1. Here you again insist upon calling the article subject by their first name, despite there being no indication that it is a patronym. This contravenes WP:SURNAME. And in the |relatives= parameter, you have added the names of non-notable relatives, i.e. ones that do not have existing Wikipedia articles. I also doubt that anybody would agree that the correct usage of |known_for= is to indicate that he is notable for being the father of Veeru Devgan.
  2. Here you fail to italicise a film title. You again use an ampersand instead of the word "and", which I already told you is sloppy and unprofessional. You also added two wikilinks for Ajay Devgn, despite that contravening WP:OVERLINK.
  3. Here, WP:OVERLINK.
  4. Here you add an unsourced birthdate, which violates our WP:BLP policy, which requires biographical details to be impeccably sourced. This also violates WP:BLPPRIVACY. You've also referred to her by her first name instead of WP:SURNAME and you've used the |citizenship= parameter when it's not warranted, which reinforces my belief that you've not read the Template:Infobox person instructions.
  5. Here you generate too many links to India, contravening WP:OVERLINK. You also added a leading zero to 5 October, which we do not do in dates, and maybe you can explain what "Filmmaker Screenwriter" is? Is that a newly invented occupation?
  6. Here you change Bhatt's place of birth to Mumbai, despite the fact that the official name of the city was Bombay until 1995.

Solely based on the above, it's very difficult to decide whether you are totally oblivious to these basic rules and guidelines, or if you're deliberately introducing problematic content into articles. On this basis, I have interrupted your editing privileges. Since some aspects of your edits have been positive, I'm willing to endorse an unblock once you start talking and so long as you are able to convince a reviewing administrator that you understand the problems raised, as well as provide a plan for how you will avoid them in the future.

If you wish to request an unblock, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:39, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
